Chaos reigns in Alabama as same-sex couples seek marriage licenses

A Sunday night order from Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore ordering probate judges not to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples caused confusion at county courthouses this morning.

Probate judges in several counties decided not to issue any marriage licenses at all - to same-sex or heterosexual couples. In some counties, including Butler County, Colbert County and Coosa County probate courts are taking marriage applications from all couples but not issuing licenses.

In Coffee County, Jefferson County, Chilton County and Madison County, probate judges said they will issue marriage licenses to all couples, gay and straight, on Monday morning.

Probate judges in other counties chose to follow the order issued late Sunday by Chief Justice Moore. Probate judges in Bibb County, Covington County, Cleburne County and Washington County decided not to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples on Monday, but will still issue licenses to opposite-sex couples.

Colbert County Probate Judge Douglas Rosser, Jr. said he is accepting applications but not issuing any licenses until further clarification. He said he hopes to revisit the policy by tomorrow morning.

"There's a conflict, and I want to follow the law," Rosser said. "But it is difficult this morning to follow the law."

Across the state, probate judges said they were seeking more clarification in the wake of Moore's order.

Probate Judge Jerry Pow of Bibb County said he is not issuing marriage licenses to any couples this morning.

"I don't know whether I want to defy the chief justice of the state supreme court or a federal judge," Pow said.

I would give anything for Ted Cruz to win the Presidency in 2016 and name Roy Moore and head of DOJ. I also wish we could get a constitution ammedment to put a one six year term limit on all government offices, including the Supreme Court. Then make it illegal to participate in any way in the election of your replacement.

The RINO’s in charge in AL forced then Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore out back in 2003 when he kept the Ten Commandments monument up in defiance of a federal court order.

Moore just came back and ran for the office again and won.
Now he is again Chief Justice of the AL Supreme Court.

Which to me the good news is that homosexuals may end up not really changing the nature of marriage and family life as much as we all feared. Because so few same sex people are actually tying the knot.

It's really about the normalizing of something that is abnormal. Because of "gay marriage" becoming legal, kids' parents have to be referred to as "Parent A" and "Parent B", rather than "mom and dad". Kids are now taught that heterosexuality is but one of many options available to them, and that same-sex attraction is normal, as is confusion over one's gender.

Thanks - I didn’t realize it was the State Supreme Court that had the Ten Commandments monument or that it was where he served as judge...I thought it was just another courthouse. We are so bombarded with garbage but at least back then, it wasn’t as bad as it is now on a daily basis. It’s a wonder we remember our own names and addresses. If we do forget, I’m sure there is a government agency who will remind us!!

The Republican Governor removed Moore in 2003......now Moore by issuing his order banning probate judges from issuing same sex marriage licenses has thrown down the gauntlet to the current GOPe governor Bentley who has the power to remove the local judges just like the governor removed Moore to keeping the Ten Commandments monument up in 2003.

Roger the fakes. When someone chooses anything first over the LORD, they are not what they claim to be. The Book makes it clear, it is Him first and everything else second, third, etc. Sadly, most folks pick something else first, second, third, etc., and Christ comes well down the list. That is why this world is in the state it is in. Many sitting in the pews these days claim that they love the LORD and that He is LORD of their lives. But, they have a laundry list of things they need to do, accomplish, see, before they are ready to accept Him over their lives. Many today are not looking for the LORD’s return because their to do list has to be accomplished before they are ready for Him to return. Sad really. Sad.

You may have touched on the good news regarding homosexual marriage.

And that is that relatively few homosexuals are actually deciding to get “married”.

Which to me the good news is that homosexuals may end up not really changing the nature of marriage and family life as much as we all feared. Because so few same sex people are actually tying the knot.

The numbers are irrelevant. Either the very nature of marriage has been changed with the first one, or it never will be.
