Sidenote: The story lists the Doris's name as Miller, but what I am able to ascertain is that it is actually Milner. Also, not sure of the spelling of Michelle...one 'l' as stated in this article or two 'l's".
Forgotten and falling into disrepair, the Camp Scott Red Barn was used for Girl Scout activities until 1977.
Wow! How incredibly sad.
I think it was two “L”s. She was a friend of my little sister.
My cousin who has lived in Tulsa all of her life remembers this case. She has mentioned it before.
Previous FR post from 2006 about the crime. Excerpt and link is no longer valid, but some may want to look at the thread.

I know! First I had heard about the story.
Ah, I’m so sorry MrEdd. The stuff of nightmares and horror movies. Everyone must have been terribly scared and on edge. I was reading my friend’s posts about it on FB as she was a young girl in OK at the time, and she said everything changed after that.
I bet. We’ve had terribly local cases here in Denver and they get embedded into your memories.
Gruesome story.
There seems to have been some clues that it was likely to occur. But back then, it was not even imaginable to even think of that happening. So they did nothing.
Fast forward to now. Stuff like happens all the time. If creepy hints and signs occur, people react.
*terrible...
Wow this has really ruined my day reading this.
About a hour south of me we have a brutal case that has now gotten cold.
Jessica Chambers was burned to death back in December and they don’t seem to be working the case now.
I’m sorry about that Sybeck1.
I’m also somewhat familiar with the Jessica Chambers case. I thought for sure they would have someone arrested by now. My preference would be for whoever did that recent, horrific crime not to be apprehended, but to put up a struggle and have to be taken out.
I wonder if the “Cold Justice” investigators have been asked to look into this case.
I’m guessing that show is on cable? It would certainly be worthy of that exposure.
The mother of one of these girls was my high school Algebra teacher, and her brother was in the band with me. I remember this well.
What a sad story...I hope they’ll find the creep...
“It was a cross between a frog and bullhorn or something. It was low and kind of guttural. It wasn’t language. It didn’t seem like language. It didn’t seem human. It didn’t sound like any animal I’ve heard,” “
2lb. metal coffee can, poke small hole in bottom. 18” of nylon cord through hole and tie a knot on the inside.
Hold the can in left hand with opening facing away from you. Starting at the back of the can drag your thumbnail along the rope while pulling it taunt.
The amplified sound will scare the crap out of anyone and anything in the woods on a dark night and sounds guttural.
I suppose we're left with the reasonable conclusion that Gene Leroy Hart was guilty of it, but there never was a trial.
Even at my naïve, gullible age I didn't believe that he died of a heart attack at age 35 inside the maximum security prison at McAlester, aka hell's waiting room, Oklahoma branch. (H/T Cripplecreek.)
I suppose for the families of these little girls the truth will be revealed on the day that all things are revealed, and they will be comforted then.
I remember this too. I grew up in Tulsa. My sister was a Girl Scout but had graduated high school before this happened. Totally sickened my family and me. It was the end of the innocent, carefree, GS camp experience. Seeing those little faces again....it brings back all the horror that we felt. So, so sad.
