Christian owners of a bakery in Gresham, Oregon, who were forced to close their business in 2013 due to backlash over their refusal to bake a cake for a lesbian wedding based on religious objections, were found guilty of discrimination Monday and now have to pay the couple up to $150,000 in fines.
The Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries announced that the owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa bakery, Aaron and Melissa Klein, will have to pay the sapphic couple. Whether or not they pay the maximum $150,000 fine will be determined at a hearing on March 10 BOLI spokesman, Charlie Burr

Given WHY they didn’t want to serve them lying about it just wouldn’t fly.
This is what I’ve been wondering too. It’s my understanding that the business has since closed. Maybe it wasn’t a corporation, which would be a mistake for any bakery.

Right. How about I have a store and I say the only product I sell are Judeo-Christian wedding cakes? These cakes come with a one-bride-one-groom caketopper, the names of the bride and groom, and a biblical phrase of MY choice written in icing around the outside of the largest layer of the cake.
And let’s just say that for any marriages that are of a certain type, I always choose a verse from Leviticus.
That is the cake I sell to everyone, no discrimination here, take it or leave it, as is.

I would expect just such an outcome.
For many years, the Seattle Times has refused to accept ads for x-rated movies and for “escort” services. They do this because they apparently have a moral objection to these things. Yet they insist adamantly that Christian bakers and florists do not have the same rights of conscience that they have.
I was just thinking - I believe supermarkets have wedding cakes - yes? - probably special order, of course.
No need to support Mom and Pop - or Pop and Pop - bakeries.

Altho I loved getting my kid’s cakes at one here years ago.
And there’s home bakers who bake custom cakes.
Oh gee gosh - remembered - there IS a bakery in my city with guys at the helm - they are fabulous cakes - and expensive.
The administrative law judge is one Alan McCollough, evidently a father of three and a "flute player" who lives in Eugene, OR.
My question is why does the LGTB group think this is some sort of “positive”. Sure, they could use this example to force, coerce or threaten people to do what they want, and those people may comply because they simply cannot afford to lose their business and their livelihood, but it does not mean they now accept the behavior, or are somehow “on their side”. Just the opposite; I would think this creates resentment and perhaps even anger, not some sort of magical understanding and acceptance.
The judge also belongs to the United Lutheran Church in Eugene, OR also.
Still trying to find out if an actual trial happened or if it's just some government agency that made the determination.
Even corporations get jury trials in civil cases if they request them.

Not surprised. Maybe conservative blue states can band together and refuse to recognize Oregon Nazi driver’s licenses.

My point is: Those bakers being fined for not baking a cake. They’re a private company/business ...where does the government get off saying who you have to deal with?
