Driving on Cruz Control?
The American Thinker ^ | 2/3/2015 | Doris O'Brien

... Among them will be Ted Cruz, who from the inception of his political career a dozen years ago has used his rhetorical wits to establish himself as a true conservative. The result is that the junior senator from Texas has become the darling of the GOP's right flank, many of whom are enthusiastic about the idea of electing him our next president. I'm not one of them. It works to a political speaker's favor to tell his audience what they want to hear. Cruz was a champion debater in college, so he knows how to score points with the judges. Certainly he feels comfortable in his conservative shoes. But of late, Ted Cruz has tweaked this comfort zone a few notches to a rather self-serving, holier-than-thou assumption that he is the only viable Republican presidential candidate who holds consistently to conservative beliefs.

Article on Cruz from American Thinker. Here is the money quote from the article:

Cruz is right. Talk is cheap. And it is generally cheapest for those who risk the fewest political consequences as a result of speaking out. When a politician like Cruz comes from a "safe" state like Texas and isn't going to be challenged for his seat any time soon, there's hardly a political price to pay for a show of bravado. It's a win-win situation for Ted Cruz to stalk the stage, saw the air with his long arms, and suggest that he deserves an endorsement for his uncompromising fealty to the principles of the Founding Fathers.

Here are some of the author's other articles on American Thinker.

American Thinker 'negative on Cruz' (tired old "self-serving" allegation) article ping ...

There should be a future positive Cruz Control counterpoint article at AT, methinks.

I’m only interested in two candidates and I’d consider them the “go for the brass ring” candidates, would be Walker and Cruz. My first choice is walker, due to tangible background and experience. But I really like what Cruz says and his fight.

"he deserves an endorsement for his uncompromising fealty to the principles of the Founding Fathers."

Yup. And unlike most others, Cruz actually preserves, protects and defends the constitution. That's where his experience is.

Give us the names of three other consistent conservatives, Doris baby.

Let's grant the authoress' premise. If he wins, he's still going to dance with the one that brung him.

I’m not a Cruz fan. If it’s been Jeb and Cruz, I’m gonna vote Cruz. I hope I’m not offered either (Hobson’s).

I think Cruz is an opportunist and I despise lawyers as a rule. His career up to this point suggest he is an opportunist:

1.) Cruz graduated cum laude from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy (My minor for my first degree was in public policy - so yah, BS*** degree. Also...Princeton - yuck.)

2.) After graduating from Princeton, Cruz attended Harvard Law School (enough said)

3.) While at Harvard Law, Cruz was a primary editor of the Harvard Law Review, and executive editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, and a founding editor of the Harvard Latino Law Review (ugh, double ugh, triple ugh - this was the type of guy handing out flyers on campus because a monkey with two fingers could do his degree. Try Science, dude, you won’t have time for your extracurricular activities because it’s HARD)

4.) Cruz served as a law clerk to J. Michael Luttig of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in 1995 and William Rehnquist, Chief Justice of the United States in 1996. (nobody should ever be POTUS who clerked for a SCJOUS - its a personal rule of mine...more of a guideline.)

5.) After Cruz finished his clerkships, he took a position with Cooper, Carvin & Rosenthal, which is now known as Cooper & Kirk, LLC, from 1997 to 1998. While with the firm, Cruz worked on matters relating to the National Rifle Association, and helped prepare testimony for the impeachment proceedings against President Clinton. Cruz also served as private counsel for Congressman John Boehner during Boehner’s lawsuit against Congressman Jim McDermott for releasing a tape recording of a Boehner telephone conversation. (So, okay, NRA good, but he also did his stint in private/public work, got his DC connections and moved on to politics. A man with a plan. I’ll bet he’s wanted to be President since he was a little itty witty boy (like Clinton).

He then works in the Bush admin at the DOJ, goes back to Texas, builds Texas connections by working as Solicitor General, goes back into private law firm work representing corps. So he’s got his DC, Texas, and Corporate connections. Next step - Senator.

This is all his little POTUS plan. I’ll wager he has a little “To Do” list in the side drawer of his desk. It makes me sick.

Where is Cincinnatus when you need him?

No candidate is more anti-communist than Cruz. We need look no further than his father for confirmation of that fact. If he gets elected, no one is more apt to NOT compromise with the Marxist left and squishy Rino’s than Cruz.

It comes down to trust. We are only too familiar with politicians who say one thing to get elected, and do quite another once in office. This will not be the case with Cruz. I TRUST him, due mainly to his strong anti-communist/Marxist background, and his actions as Senator. With Cruz, it is “what you see is what you will get.”

While Walker MAY turn out to be as trustworthy, were he to be elected POTUS, there remains question marks. not so with Cruz. We can trust Cruz to be what he purports to be.

Was Cruz working on his POTUS to-do list when he was winning cases before the supreme court?

Is taking the easy path when he takes hostile interviews in the main-stream media and out debates them rather than caving in to try to win points with the leftists?

Was it taking the easy path when Cruz was running as a no-name outside shot against a GOPe candidate who spent millions of dollars to trash his name?

I like what Cruz has presented in his public appearances but have no pretense that I really “know” the man or what he could bring as President. That will become known IF he becomes a candidate, and will be in the context of all other choices in the primary season. I also respect his accomplishments as a lawyer.

But I do believe we need to get the the point where all candidates are examined and discussed objectively, pros and cons, and not just from the perspective of FR which is clearly always going to be a cheering section for the conservative viewpoint. In order to win in 2016 it’s going to matter how a candidate is perceived by many who are not self-identified conservatives just as it was when Reagan won. I think we will divide into two camps, those who support their favorites but do so with objectivity and being evidence that supports their beliefs in an effort to convince others, and those who wish to live in an echo chamber where only one candidates name is spoken or heard. I can’t see how the latter approach helps advance the cause of conservatism.
