Tim Cook Defused Steve Jobs' Thermonuclear War, Then He Took Down Android
Forbes ^ | Saturday, January 31, 2015 | Evan Spence

I’ve already spoken about one of the plays made by Apple and Tim Cook to damage Android. This was the push to 64-bit computing in the iPhone 5S. As that smartphone was announced, the roadmaps for Android devices did not have 64-bit computing planned in the near future. Manufacturers and component suppliers were bounced into making bold claims that they would join Apple in the 64-bit world.

They had no choice but to do this. Android’s success was built around the promise of being faster, better, and stronger than its rival OS. If Apple was 64-bit, Android had to be 64-bit as well. Promises were made, plans were changed, and the rush to 64-bit comp

The impact of that push remain to this day. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 was the chipset expected to lead the charge, but production issues have forced manufacturers to delay products into Q3 2015, or choose alternative chips with the resulting compatibility problems of running third-party Android applications.

Apple weakened the chipsets in Android by forcing the manufacturers to follow them on the 64-bit roadmap. Resources, time, and developmental energies were directed away from competing directly with Apple and into something that has taken far longer than planned.

Unlike you, I’m not a fanboi, so I feel no need to defend, or attack, any operating system. You posted, IMO, a worthless article. I thought you might like to show me the error of my ways. Obviously not. But, lesson learned, I now know not to bother with your posts.

Thank you for that and your recognition that you’re not interested in these articles. I do appreciate that kind of reaction a lot more than the haranguing of a few others, incessantly, on these types of threads.

As for myself ... I’m the same way, in that I don’t go onto threads where I’m not interested in the topic.

People who think AAPL plays in niche markets need to rethink that position and don’t really understand marketing strategy.

Wife has iPad Mini....loves it. I broke the pattern and went with a Surface...got a good deal, and has full office suite... what can I say? Be careful at those red lights! Actually my iPhone 6 plus screen size isn’t too far off the mini :)

You’re a sucker if you are trusting the iCloud. Not only trusting it, but you are PAYING for it. Like the saying goes, “A sucker is born every minute.”

because that is Apples proprietary BS. Not offering a standard SD card in 2015 is a smack in the face to any semi knowledgeable person that knows the different between an SD card and a tic tac tac.

How is that a deal? I paid less than half that for double the specs of that 2+ years ago for a Lenovo laptop that already has a keyboard and monitor built in? Talk about misleading... $499 for an obsolete box is ludicrous...

I’ve done it already, as I said, restored an iPad completely to its prior state, and actually on two iPads. Now ... in addition to that, I’ve got about 6,000 pictures on the iPad, and I actually have them “triple-backed up” ... through Apple iCloud service (which worked perfectly two prior times) and then through Dropbox and also Shoebox. But I really haven’t needed to use the extra backups.

Oh ... one more thing on that ... it costs me LESS for the iCloud backup (which worked perfectly two prior times) compared to the price of Dropbox and Shoebox. But I have those other two anyway, even though I pay more than for Apple, just for the “triple-backup”. ... :-) ...

And with the screen, keyboard, and mouse from Apple, the total will be around around 1,000, so you pretty much just proved my point again. Plus, I have my most recent desktop computer assembled for less than the cost of your mac mini, and higher performance specs too. That’s the limits of their market. Once someone knows how to assemble their own computer, you’re at a dead end.

Jobs was a formidable guy with an impressive business skill set and many groundbreaking accomplishments. His most amazing feat was, in my view, making Apple products objects of desire, objects with which consumers established an emotional attachment. To those of us for whom computing devices are tools, this makes no sense but for the converts, it is a source of pleasure. I liken it to the woman who spends 10 grand on a dress. It’s not just a dress, it’s CHANEL, and the boost she gets from that makes it worth it to her. And just as gets an ego boost from sniffing at the proles wearing ready-to-wear, so the Apple fans get a boost from sniffing at those ‘chumps’ using Android. It’s funny, really.

The mass market isn’t into assembling their own computer.

“LOL ... welcome to our Apple-hater trolls ... they have arrived!”

“Apple Haters” is a term I would expect liberals to use, liberal. They love that “hater” word.

When you post ridiculous crap like this about Apple you expose yourself as a paid troll. Every day you paid trolls post ridiculous threads like this about Apple.

For those that don’t know, companies like Apple pay people to come to sites like FR and setup FR as a blog about Apple. Social Media is big business.

To me, it is bandwidth and server theft as you don’t pay FR to host your Apple advertisements.
