When FDR made gold illegal to own for everyday people – At the point of a gun

FDR, the man who studied Mussolini, who birthed the current intrusive state, who started the drug war in earnest, who put Japanese Americans into concentration camps, who extended the Depression years longer than it needed to be and thereby contributed to the genesis of the Second World War, who tried to pack the Supreme Court, who gave away half of Europe to the Soviets at Yalta, and who confiscated the gold – the real wealth – of the American people.

What a guy. And he still has his face on the dime.

There is a reason why my grandmother, a good New York City Irish catholic despised the man. She thought Roosevelt was a hair’s breadth short of being a dictator.

She was probably being nice.

No doubt. Makes ya wonder, freedom loving Americans moving in such a way as to limit and intrude upon others liberties.

I don’t get it.

And called Joe Stalin "Uncle Joe", a communist that killed tens of millions of his own people and killed WW2 GIs in the gulags. Scum.

The only choices they want are to kill human life. Preferably, innocent human life.

It was the SOB’s BD yesterday, wasn’t it? Apparently my son’s teachers managed to tell them that.

My grandmother didn’t like him, either. She had a neighbor who adored him. When the SOB died, apparently this neighbor went around telling people, distraught beyond measure when at my grandma’s house. Grandma said, “Well, sorry...for you.”

And, he was elected for 3 terms. Go figure the stupidity of the American people. Has anything really changed?

My honest opinion is there is no solution short of a complete collapse and eventual resurrection. Look at the Roman empire. It finally fell in the fifth century and it was nearly a thousand years before a European culture re-emerged.

We are headed down the road toward a socialist hell and most people care more about air pressure in footballs than care or even understand why this is a horrible end to the American experiment. Education seems impossible, the masses simply want to be supported and can’t even dream of making their own way. It sucks.

My Mom and Dad were born in 1907 and 1909 respectively. In 1933 they were struggling to get by, just like most folks were. They sure as heck didn’t have any gold, other than my mother’s wedding band. Their parents didn’t have any either.

It’s like our fanatic Muslim “friends” are telling us. People will back the strong horse.

But did you bother to ask God what He thinks? Is He really resigned to just sulking ignored in a corner for another millennium or so?

I knew a very nice old woman at my first real professional job - she was a secretary there - who obviously adored FDR. She said, and I remember this 20 years on, “he cared for the working man”. Amazing how they fall for that claptrap. The man was an arrogant overprivileged haughty phony.

Ecclesiastes 1:9

What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.

Actually, he was elected for 4 terms.

Only served less than three months of his fourth term.

When he died, his mistress Lucy Mercer, had to vamoose from Warm Springs, GA, before Eleanor showed up to see the body.

It’s one thing to curse such darknesses.

Who can light some candles?

Bonus points for obscure Eleanor Roosevelt reference.

Well fine, if you don’t like the metaphor then use another one. Sounds like Eleanor was far classier than her hubby.

Truth is Lusitania was 3 years before entrance into war. I was always given that impression, too, but they sure dragged their feet about it if it really was the cause of Americans entering the war.

No,no—I was complimenting you.

It was clever to use Eleanor’s signature quote about lighting a candle to vanquish the darkness.

Most younger Freepers would not know about that.

Well, clever in what way I am not positive. I didn’t mean to exalt the Roosevelts. It’s a common metaphor used in various variation (e.g. the Bush thousand points of light).

Anyhow, I strongly urge the consideration that doom-mindedness is shortsighted given that God hasn’t been asked into the picture. Now once God has been asked, the short term may be that a chastisement is needed, but the character of God is that He is angry for a moment but His lovingkindness is forever. He will not sin against His own character.

Well, then, you were clever without realizing it.

Not sure what the rest of your comment has to do with FDR.
