Why Mike Huckabee’s Cornpone Politics Drives Me Crazy — And Will Never Work
National Review ^ | 1/28/2015 | Charles W. Cooke

Posted on 01/30/2015 7:31:19 PM PST by Vendome

Huckabee is essentially attempting to become to the Right what the likes of Neil deGrasse Tyson have become to the Left: namely, a proxy figure who can be used as shorthand by the lazy and the lost to signify their allegiance to a set of cherished cultural values

Huckabee is no doubt a good and decent guy.

I imagine I'd like him quite a bit, if we ever meet.

But, his brand of politics and shift of positions important to me and a good many of us on the right seem to have come from some sort of moral and intellectual displacement and he hurled his new found positions at the speed of a pyroclastic explosion that is indeed pretty painful, all the while eschewing that our values our crawdad etoufee, Fried Okra and Pecan Pie.

But, where is the real food for adults who know better than to eat that stuff?

Good bye Huck...Hucky...Huckster...

In Europe they’re called “Christian Socialists” and are sometimes successful. We don’t have them here.

I think his campaign is just an example of “divide and conquer”—split the conservative vote among several candidates, so that Jeb can get the nomination.

That’s how we got McCain, IIRC.

And I haven’t forgotten that Huck was imho a part of that then, also.

(entirely MOO)

Huckabee always claims conservative and Christian cred he’s never earned. He comes off as a phony-baloney to me.

Huckleberry belongs in a 1970s Hee-Haw episode or a cartoon, but not a candidate.

The Huck is just selling books and splitting up the conservative vote by drawing away the ‘Bible Thumpers’. The ones he don’t get, Santorum will finish off to clear the way for the RINO.

Both will be handsomely funded by the main RINO candidate. (JEB! or Fat Boy)

We’ve seen this show so many times. It’s almost sadly predictable.

I’d LOVE to know WHO in the world thought that picture would be a good idea! LOOOL!!!!

If they’re a consultant, surely they’re still unemployed.

The poor dog is the best looking out of all of them, but those two lard ass boys look like they might be about to eat it, if the poor thing wasn’t able to run away in time.

How pleasant to see that photo of Cruz and his family float by my screen....

I have put my hope in the Lord that HE might give our nation another chance....Cruz is the man I think has the ability to lead this country. He’s past my test of a leader and one who can use his own mind well.

I disagree. I don’t think he is a good and decent guy. But he does play one on TV.

His name is perfect. He’s a huckster.

Remember that he wrote a book about the diet and exercise that lost him all that weight? It was a gastric bypass.

Remember when he had a lovely commercial during high campaign season where he was standing beside his Christmas tree, talking abut stepping aside from all the politics and just wishing everyone a Merry Christmas? It was really nice. There was a white bookshelf behind him, and two lines of it glowed in the shape of a cross. It looked made by design, and even I thought it was a nice touch, and I am Jewish. If it wasn’t made by design, the cross glowing was a very fortuitous accident, seen by all producers afterward and kept in. Instead of owning it, and responding to people mentioning the cross, saying something like “wasn’t that pretty? The reason for the season,” Huckabee chose to scoff at Americans and in a hostile tone of voice said, “People! It was just a BOOKSHELF!”

Remember when he was governor, and pardoned a “converted” killer who left the state and killed police officers in cold blood?

Remember when he was governor, and his oldest son (over 18) was counselor to kids on a camping trip, and the son found a stray dog, tortured it for hours, and then hung the puppy to die on a tree? And Daddy got it all wiped away, so Junior didn’t even have to do community service after his heinous crime?

Huckabee is not a good guy. He’s sort of good at fooling some. He has a sheepskin made out of Christianity that he wears.
