Rep. Alan Nunnelee, who has been absent from Capitol Hill for the majority of the past year after being diagnosed with a brain tumor in the spring, was moved to home hospice care in Tupelo, Miss., on Monday, according to a source with knowledge of the Republican’s condition.

A local consultant issued a statement from the family Friday confirming the grim news.

Tough diagnosis. Don’t know the gentleman, but this is a hard thing to deal with, both him and his family. Prayers for him and his family.

Prayers up, for this Congressman and his family.

From the link...

Nunnelee came to Congress in 2010, defeating one-term Democratic Rep. Travis W. Childers in the Magnolia State’s 1st District.

Prior to that, he spent more than 15 years in the Mississippi Senate, where he served as an appropriator and stalwart social conservative. In 2003, he spearheaded the successful constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage in the state.

On Capitol Hill, Nunnelee is a member of the conservative Republican Study Committee. He also serves on the House Budget and Appropriations committees, where he fought for cost-cutting measures.

Prayers up for him and his family. Not to be fatalistic, but I sure hope that the corrupt Mississippi GOPe Barbour organization doesn’t arrange for a RINO to replace him.

He probably will. But a special election will be held to replace him.

This is my rep. I have held all of my wrath pitted to the GOP away from his office.

Shite. Only 56 years old.

Look like we’re gonna have our 2nd special election of the cycle unless a miracle occurs.

Of all the cancers, brain cancer is the worst. It is truly heart-wrenching.

Perhaps a cold question...
He was diagnosed in the spring, but he is still serving.. meaning he won in NOV?

I didn’t either. I did notice he was absent for the Speaker vote and wondered why. Very sad.

Of course he won, you wouldn’t expect him to lose in his Republican district to an Obamatard just cause he was sick. The Obamatard, Ron Dickey, falsely claimed to be a Green Beret, what a POS.

Prayers up. Sounds like it will take a miracle for him to beat this.

In a special election, I expect former Congressman Travis Childers (D) to run. Good thing that he ran as a Democrat for the U.S. Senate last year, or he could switch to Republican and fool some conservatives into voting for him.

On the GOP side, Fox News contributor and “Tea Party leader” Angela McGlowan might run again (she finished third with 15% in the 2010 primary). She fizzled in 2010 when she spoke approvingly about some kinds of gun control (plus, in general, she seemed a little flaky to me); unless she’s changed her mind and can convince voters that she’s not a gun-grabber, she would have no chance. A McGlowan victory would not be as historic as it would have been in 2010 (which was prior to Mia Love becoming the first black female Republican ever elected to Congress), but it still would be eye-opening.
