A German carnival has dropped plans to build a "Charlie Hebdo" float with a cartoonist forcing a pencil into the barrel of a terrorist's gun, after receiving messages from locals worried about safety if the float went on show.

I should note here....living in Germany....that this is the carnival staff in Koln. If you do a percentage check...out of the one million residents....roughly 300,000 are either immigrant Germans or foreign residents with a visa for Germany. That should give you an idea of the potential political worries here. From the major four parties (CDU, SPD, Green, and Linke Party)....none of them want front-page problems with the non-Germans...it’ll do them in with the next region/national election.
The whole carnival atmosphere is supposed to be about humor, partying, drinking, and sarcastic wit. You can be sarcastic about anything....except anything that has to do with the Prophet-stuff.
Surrender? They created an atmosphere where a 7th Century dead illiterate prophet is now interfering with typical German activities. Try explaining that with a straight face.

They are going to replace the Charlie float with one showing Hitler slipping on a banana...oh...that German sense of humor....

In the case of Breslin....I always expected massive payback and permanent defensive posture to occur. You didn’t get that from the Russians...oddly enough.
For a Paris-like episode or a Breslin-like event to occur in Germany...it’d likely make it very uncomfortable to be an outsider and think that ‘rights’ and the cops were going to protect you.
Presently, Germany is undergoing a crime-wave of sorts (over a decade in building up) that has nothing to do with Islam but mostly East Europeans that arrived and saw it as a Disneyland operation for theft (19,000 vehicles stolen in Germany). So, it is a large issue with many points to it.
No politically insensitive floats. Then no women with bare shoulders. Then no church bells. No women with uncovered heads. No drinking. Then no Western music. No women unaccompanied by a male relative. No dancing. No pork. No music. No kissing in public. No Jews. No holding hands. No Christians. No dogs. No TV. No laughing. No. No. No. No life.
I think you're spot on with your predictions. Putting aside the terrorist activities for a moment, the Islamists are all about pushing ahead, demanding more. Western civilization is all about falling back, giving in.
For the Islamists, slow and steady wins the race.
There are more, refusal to continue to criticize Islam in this carnival is surrender given such a history.
Until this ISIS thing started up over Syria....I think you could do a skeptical-view float and they had to accept it (note, there’s always an anti-Pope float and various anti-Christian floats). The political folks are freaking out because the whole immigration thing might be used for an election theme...rather than the typical anti-US-gimmick, pension-reform, or corruption-angle.
If some election occurs and the new AfD party (newly created in the past two years) gets twenty-five percent of the national vote because of their anti-immigration stake....the stability of the German Bundestag (parliament) gets flipped into question. It’s hard enough for five parties to figure out a team-work situation to get fifty-percent control of the Bundestag....but AfD would make it things very difficult.

The word “Carnival” in German is the same 3 days of celebration before Ash Wednesday parade and party we call Mardi Gras holiday celebrated before Lent. Not a touring Amusement company.
