A 30-year-old Newhall man arrested on suspicion of killing his 19-day-old infant daughter also allegedly sexually assaulted her, prosecutors said in announcing charges against him Tuesday.

Matthew Brendan Warner was taken into custody Saturday morning, less than 12 hours after his daughter was reported missing from home where he and his girlfriend live.

After a large-scale search operation, the baby’s father provided information that led investigators to the baby’s body, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials said. The girl, identified as Ellorah Rose Warner, was found in the front cab of a pickup truck.

I cannot, nor do I ever want to 'understand' what was going through this animal's mind.

I may be a wee bit old fashioned and chivalrous, but a man's purpose is to protect his daughters and wee bairns, not inflict such horror upon them. Better he had just walked away and left her with her mom, never to see her again, than this.

According to one story, the baby's mother went to work at a daycare center. Her mother was at the house and heard strange noises from the bedroom and weak cries from the baby. The phone was disconnected so she went to a neighbor and the father and baby were gone when she returned. Yet THE BABY WAS NOT REPORTED MISSING UNTIL THE FATHER AND THE MOTHER WALKED INTO THE POLICE STATION TOGETHER AT 9 PM?? And he did not lead them to the body until the following morning. Where did the grandmother and mother think she was??? How does a 19-day-old infant "go missing"? It's not like she toddled out the door. And if she were "kidnapped," wouldn't THE MOM call the police immediately instead of strolling over to the police station with her beau?

(as an aside, California gives disability pay for six weeks after childbirth, did she have to return to work?)
