BREAKING: Keystone filibuster fails; pipeline poised for approval
Washington Times ^ | January 29,2015

The Keystone XL pipeline is closer than it’s ever been to approval after the Senate overcame a Democrat-led filibuster Thursday and was headed for a final passage vote later in the day — setting up an eventual showdown with President Obama, who has promised a veto.

Nine Democrats bucked Mr. Obama’s threat and voted with 53 Republicans to approve the pipeline, which has taken on a political significance far beyond the 830,000 barrels per day of tar sands oil that it is projected to carry if it ever gets built. It marks the first major legislation to clear the Senate since the GOP took control earlier this month, and serves as a key test of how willing Democrats will be to challenge their lame-duck party leader, Mr. Obama.

“This took a bipartisan effort to get done. That’s what the people want,” said Sen. John Hoeven, the North Dakota Republican who sponsored the legislation.

It won't be built until Obama is gone.

Everyone in the game knows this; the issue is what the next Pres will do, and we have to make it a 2016 campaign issue, both for the GOP nominee and for whoever on the left chooses to receive the Obamamantle.

“And destined for a veto. >:-(”

Alas: You are RIGHT. The Sunni Muslim in the White House WILL veto it, to help increase our dependence on those to whom he BOWS.

Would be nice to see a veto override. Shove it down his throat.

Sideways.

That’s OK - just keep sending up popular legislation for Obozo to veto.

Send the same thing up over and over again.

Far as I can tell the only extraneous amendment is the Portman-Sheehan energy efficiency bill.
Which I don’t approve of but it isn’t a deal-breaker IMO.
It helps develop HW heaters that the utility can turn off whenever they wish. I’d like to see some limit on how much or often they can turn them off- so customers can rely on their HW heaters.

There will be a veto. I just hope the Republicans don't just give up afterwards like they usually do.

There were a couple of amendments which Obama demanded. I don’t see them in the final bill. One was about exporting. The other was about using only USA steel and USA employees.

“Maybe the Dems are catching on...”

Dems will find a way to subvert the whole process in favor of their revolution. (Bureau of Green Management is the new branch of government that operates behind the scenes.)

IMHO

Obama just might approve it to take it out of the “2016 Issue” column.

It’s also the religion of a larger and larger part of the electorate who think of themselves as brilliant intellectual geniuses.

Need to inflate the balls of 5 more democrats.

With gas at $3.80, perhaps. With gas at $1.99? Not a chance. This is exactly what the Saudis intended.

Bottom line....Obama will kiss up to the maniacs in Saudi Arabia for access to oil but won't build a pipeline that makes us independent of them.

I'm a tree hugger, but mygosh. Someone should tell the eco-freaks that endless wars to support the Saudi agenda are really bad for the environment.

We’ve had cheap gas before. Have no fear...they’ll go back up....and probably with a little “gas tax” added.
