Why Firearms Makers Are So Worried Even as The Second Amendment Is Stronger than Ever
National Review Online ^ | January 27, 2015 | Ted R. Bromund

But despite their formidable powers of self-defense, members of the industry are a nervous lot — and not without reason. Two years ago, after Newtown and the 2012 election, the show anxiously awaited President Obama’s executive actions on gun control. A year ago, the (ATT),.. promised nothing but trouble. This year, executive actions were back on the agenda: with the midterm elections now past, the industry fears there’s nothing to stop the president from indulging his anti-firearms instincts.
[..]
But gun-control supporters aren’t merely relying on fooling people with new language. From import bans to action through the Centers for Disease Control, the Obama administration... is doing what it can, where it can. Operation Choke Point, which targets gun sellers.. by attacking their ability to keep a bank account open, has achieved a certain level of notoriety, but other moves are farther under the radar.
[..]
The latest such change came earlier this month, when the ATF issued a new ruling (ATF Rul. 2015–1) that redefines what it means to be a manufacturer of firearms, thereby bringing a new swath of the industry under its control.
Many see this as a late-arriving effort by the ATF to win a legally dubious, ongoing case against Ares Armor, a California-based concern. It’s certainly an example of the government’s changing the rules of the game to its benefit: Only last year, I was standing in the hallways of the show listening as a high-ranking ATF official explained to a trade lawyer that a bent piece of metal with a hole in it wasn’t legally a firearm, and therefore was not subject to ATF control. Now, all of a sudden, that piece of metal requires a firearm manufacturer’s license, if ATF thinks it can be converted into a firearm.

Those of you concerned about the cause of liberty need to be afraid, be very afraid.

We have a ‘Leader’ that doesn’t care what he does to freedom or even what he does to his own Demonrat National Communist party.

Couple that with the Jell-O spines of the GOPe who reflexively announce that they don’t want to impeach his majesty wherever and whenever they can and you’ve got a dangerous situation.

All the socialist gun grabbers of the nation’s leftist cadres are just standing by for the perfect serious crisis to come along – another massacre in a “Gun-Free” zone and they will be back with a vengeance calling for basic control of your personal possessions – you guns with the precursor to confiscation - registration

And thus the reason why they want to micromanage your life and your possessions – especially with regard to firearms.

They want to make it so onerous to even look at a gun that they discourage people to not bother.

Want to borrow a friends gun – get the government’s permission.

Want to sell one of your possessions - get the government’s permission.

Want to shoot a friends gun at the range - get the government’s permission.

And these are the same folks who claim to be ‘Liberal’ HAH!

“Operation Chokepoint”.

They shut down my company’s customers, legal businesses, because they didn’t like their business model and could not get legislation passed to close them down.
So, they threatened banks not to provide services to them.

Cost me a LOT of income.

Don’t know if you watched the Sons Of Liberty on the History channel, but regardless of any license they took in making the show, it deeply saddened me to watch and be reminded what we have allowed to be squandered. What a disgrace to those that put it all out there to make this country what it once was. Sad, sad state of affairs.

My sincere hope is that the ones sweating it the most are the rotten FFL dealers, who were more than willing to jump in bed with FedGov and background checks, just to make a few $$$. I hope FFL dealers feel the worst heat from all this.

Yes, but the Demonrat National Communist party thinks they know better how to run your life.

Because they are the smartest people around and they know this because they are the smartest people around...

The “80%” rule for firearms is just that - a rule that the ATF made up as the dividing line between a hunk of metal and a firearm reciever. Barring specific law to the contrary, the ATF is free to change the definition.

Second Amendment “stronger than ever”?

A century ago, a person could buy a new-manufacture machine gun without a permit from the government.

Today, they can’t.

Not “stronger than ever”.

Share it with a leftist

Leftist turds don't care about facts or statistics...neither does the average American voter. It's all about emotions ("It's for the chiiiiiildren"). The sooner us Conservatives learn that and put it to use in our favor, the better of we'll be.

Yep... I often trap libs who defend him as “not a socialist”.

After they go for a while, I admit - yeah, you know, you’re right. He’s not really a socialist. His governing philosophy fits better in the category of FASCISM.

SCOTUS affirmed our right to keep arms and later extended that right to the states. Our right to bear arms is still pretty muddy and in many states, rights to keep or bear arms are generally treated as privileges.

I hope for the day SCOTUS affirms our right to bear arms and adds clarity to the definition of infringement.

Yes, I saw most of it – and was surprised that they actually included the part where Gun CONFISCATION partially sparked off the Revolution.

Keep in mind this quote:

“You need only reflect that one of the best ways to get yourself a reputation as a dangerous citizen these days is to go about repeating the very phrases which our founding fathers used in their struggle for independence.”Historian Charles A. Beard, (1874-1948)

Some of his ‘facts’ are flat out wrong though.

Saying Detroit has strict gun control sticks out as 100% wrong. there are others too.

Ask them to cite how Obama’s national agenda is somehow different from socialism – they won’t be able to do so.

Besides, Socialism and Fascism are merely variations of the same evil.

In certain basic respects - a totalitarian state structure, a single party, a leader, a secret police, a hatred of political, cultural and intellectual freedom - fascism and communism are clearly more like each other than they are like anything in between. Arthur M. Schlesinger
