Pope mulls crossing U.S.-Mexico border to show solidarity with immigrants

The U.S.-Mexico border may someday see a high-profile crosser – Pope Francis.

The intrepid pontiff raised the possibility that among his future trips could be entering the U.S. border from Mexico.

The pope, who made the comment while flying back recently from the Philippines, said he would do it to show solidarity with immigrants, according to the Latin Post.

"To enter the U.S. from the Mexico border would be a beautiful sign of brotherhood and help for immigrants," the pope said, according to the Post and other outlets.

There are some logistical factors, however, that the pope indicated he would have to address. "To go to Mexico without visiting the Virgin (of Guadalupe) would be a drama. A war would break out, and there is no time," Francis quipped.

Upon re-reading, I do not see where he says he will ILLEGALLY cross our southern border.

So, as long as he has the necessary visa and other paperwork, I’m fine with it.

Maybe he can ask Jeb Bush’s wife for some pointers.

‘Then send them all to Vatican City....’

My thoughts, too. Then I remembered that Vatican City is enclosed within thick walls.

More Papal hypocrisy

Arrest him and toss him in the van like the rest.

Why is the Pope encouraging illegality?

Any way we can arrange for him to disappear in the desert?

And the US is somehow powerless to stop him?

I wish I was Catholics so I could reform. The Pope is an enemy of the U.S.

I have a better idea Your Holiness. How about you show solidarity with our Christian brothers and sisters in the Middle East by going to Qaraqosh.

He’s welcome to cross any border he wants legally, but this nonsense of doing it to blame the big bad evil US for the flight of people from their own countries is ridiculous. He criticized the Italians, too, after that shipwreck in Lampedusa...even though they had done everything possible to rescue the Africans on the ship and in fact are practically an open door for Africans at any hour of the day and night. But they were heard-hearted and evil in the Pope’s tiny mind.

Maybe he’ll dress up in drag when he crosses the border to show his solidarity with the LBGTWXYZ or whatever it is, since we all know how persecuted they are in the US...

He just needs to shut his trap. He’ll appear much smarter than he is.

So the Pope should be more than willing to waive the Church’s Tax-Exempt status to help pay for all of these immigrants, right?

How about coming in through Ellis Island when immigrants did it correctly?

I checked out just past that point.

I definitely didn't "check out" but assist in pre-VII liturgy only.

Still think Benedict may have been the real thing.

I do understand that popes can make all kinds of outlandish statement "on their own time" -- not infallibly -- but definitely don't care for what we're hearing just the same.

How can anyone still defend this character? He does not care what the Bible says or laws of a country.

Dear Pope, sir,
Should I decide to become a Catholic, may I just walk into any church and begin participating in the Eucharist? Or are there certain things I must do before I am accepted as a believing Catholic in good standing? What about being a priest? Can I just declare myself a priest and begin taking confession - in the eyes of your church? Or do I need to follow a delineated protocol?

Before you start harping on the US’s border law, best you take a look at your own church’s “border” policy.

And while we’re at it, suppose I want to become a citizen of Vatican City...I just walk in and claim citizenship, right?
