Search the archives of JihadWatch.org to review the meteoric rise of shariah courts in the UK. IIRC, about a dozen shariah courts were sanctioned the first year and by the second year there were over a hundred operating and boasting their existence prior to first dozen. Sadly, traitor to the CoE, archbishop Rowan (at the time) expressed this was a welcome trend.
In August 2007, sharia courts began passing judgements. Two more courts are being planned for Edinburgh and Glasgow. Sheikh Faiz-ul-Aqtab Siddiqi, chairman of the governing counsel of the tribunal anticipates the courts will be handling a number of smaller criminal cases in coming years as more muslim clients approach them. "All we're doing is regulating community affairs in these cases" said Sheikh Faiz-ul-Aqtab Siddiqi.
"It appears the British sharia court allowance is expanding from domestic relations and inheritance to criminal issues as we speak. (2008)"

When it comes to Islam, nothing is as innocuous as it appears. Expect the same explosion of shariah courts here in the US. Once the camels nose is allowed to penetrate the skirt if the tent, it becomes increasingly difficult to push back in this climate of victimology.

In an Islamic zone, reporting a crime (committed by a Muslim) to the police, instead of to the Sharia court, will probably get you the "snitches get stitches" treatment.
