Whatever it was, Smith instinctively knew to keep quiet about it. “How does a 5-year-old in 1956 tell his mother he’s really a girl?” she said. At Patchogue HS on Long Island, Smith dated women, but relationships were short-lived. “I loved being with them, going to movies, but I always felt like I had to do more — and it didn’t feel right,” she said.

Don’t count me as a Nazi apologist...but if the Jewish population of Germany in the 1920s and 30s was acting this way, it becomes easier to understand why ethnic Germans would not have been all that upset with what happened to them. Generally, if you’re a minority, it’s best to keep your head down and NOT try to change the majority culture.

That’s really interesting (although, transgender proponents do a good job of arguing their case). I’ll have to revisit his site, & see what he’s saying now.
It’s hard to avoid cross-dressing these days,except for a man wearing a dress or other ladies clothing, or a woman wearing a man’s suit.
