Slate: ‘Friends’ reruns no longer politically correct
Media Equalizer ^

File this under “the one where Friends fail to fits in with ‘modern gender politics'”.

By the standards of circa-2015 political correctness, does the long-running sitcom pass the test? The show that brought a huge young audience to NBC’s primetime lineup in the 1990s was apparently a hotbed of anti-gay, misogynistic antics and all-around bigotry.

That’s according to the historical revisionists over at Slate, where Ruth Graham has been taking notes while binge-watching reruns on Netflix. Could it be the next Amos ‘n Andy?

Isn’t the problem obvious? In the 1990s, PC extremism was still confined to college campuses, while a primitive, bitter-clinging America at-large had yet to be indoctrinated.

From her sofa, Graham has found appalling examples of behavior that “wouldn’t play” in 2015, finding some that come across as “painfully CBS”. Ouch!

“Not that there’s anything wrong with that.”

Was Jerry being PC? Or using good sarcastic wit?

I am not going to let my kids watch such bigoted stuff like “Friends”.

I am much more comfortable with them watching “I Love Lucy” and “The CiscoKids”, those Latinos spank the women who get out of line. . . makes more of an impression the the youngsters than a gun battle.

“Cheers.”

“Friends” is what made the homely Jennifer Anniston a star.

Cheers comes on right after Hogan’s Heros here. Now, I’m going to have to stay up and watch just to p*$$ off the PC crowd.

Very few shows from the 80s and 90s would pass PC muster today. Proof positive that PC is BS.

Gosh, if it’s as bad as this dimwit says it is, I may have to Netflix the series.

I worked with a guy who never found Jennifer Anniston attractive due to her “masculine chin”.

I was so taken by her eyes and other...ummm...assets, I had never even noticed.

Aniston may be a liberal dingbat, but I wouldn't mind waking up every morning to that face & bod.

I remember the poster in many a college dorm room of Anniston topless and covered her chest..barely. She’s hot.

It’s funny, CBS censors let her blend her pregnancy with the story line if she didn’t say “pregnant”. And for the first years, Lucy and Ricky had twin beds. Lots of what they did would not be allowed today, the offended ones would cry “stereotypes”, etc. But it was never sleazy like so many shows today or of recent years’ vintage. The fact that I Love Lucy is still playing all over the world everyday says that many people prefer to be entertained without tweaking and/or twerking,
