Silver’s law firm rakes in millions from judges he controls

Sheldon Silver has perverted the courts as well as the Capitol.

His law firm, Weitz & Luxenberg, gets its asbestos cases — and paydays — moved more quickly than those of other attorneys, and reaps a fortune from favorable rulings by friendly judges, charge lawyers and tort-reform advocates.

Silver’s East Village firm handles more than half the cases in a special section of Manhattan Supreme Court called NYCAL (New York City Asbestos Litigation). So dominant is the firm, the court’s Web site refers to cases as “Weitz” or “non-Weitz.”

The chief asbestos judge, Sherry Klein Heitler — also Manhattan’s chief civil judge — has handled dozens of Weitz & Luxenberg cases.

Of 15 mesothelioma verdicts in the last four years, Silver’s firm won $273.5 million of $313.5 million awarded by NYCAL juries. Law firms usually take a third.

Unbelievable corruption, and everyone's palm got greased so no one talked.

I'm glad this scumbag is going to spend the rest of his golden years in the big house.

I wonder how close he and de Blasio were?

What do you bet this POS starts talking like a little bird to save his ass?

And when that happens you will see the crooks scatter like roaches.

They can’t possibly put this guy away long enough. They need to seize all of his wrongfully gotten gains and make his family and friends who profited poor forever. Drain the swamp on this one.

It might not matter. Short of Cuomo, there is no "bigger fish" in NY than Sheldon Silver. As such, the prosecutors might not be that interested in letting him sing....unless it might but Mario Jr on the hook.

He should be in prison a long time. I wouldn’t be be surprised
if Sheldon got a joke of a sentence and his coffers were filled to overflowing for being selectively silent.

This has the potential to clear out a whole generation of democRATS in New York. Hopefully Schmuck Schemer and Kirsten Gillibrand and the RAT contingent of the House are caught up in this black hole of crime and corruption as well.

Unfortunately, Silver will have a jail house accident long before anything like that will happen.

Nothing, NOTHING happens in Gnu Yak State Gumment without the approval of Prince Andrew. Consequently, the bottom line is that instead of “three in a room” for the budget, there is only one. His Royal Highness.

De Blasio Appoints Ex-Silver Aide Fuleihan as NYC Budget Chief
Wednesday, 18 Dec 2013

EXCERPT

The new budget chief served more than 30 years in state government, including 16 as a policy aide to Silver, a Democrat. He was also secretary to the Assembly Ways and Means Committee, where he was chief staff negotiator for New York’s $130 billion budget.

‘Retired’ Shel pal lands a $UNY job
July 25, 2011

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver’s longtime fiscal ad viser, Dean Fuleihan, who earlier this month “retired” after 33 years working for the Assembly to take what many expected would be a private-sector job, wound up landing a cushy government job that pays about $30,000 more, records show.

On the same day that Fuleihan left his $157,580-a-year job, he was hired — without public announcement — as a $185,000-a-year “executive vice president” at the State University of New York’s cutting-edge College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering in Albany.

The college has received about $1 billion in direct state funding because of Silver’s strong backing.

Is there a website which lists the now almost daily news of democRATs getting arrested, thrown in jail or under investigation for crimes? If so, it must be busy and enormous.

If the “right people” think Silver might roll over on them it will be lights out for Sheldon. He might develop a nasty cancer or have a surprise attack of SIDS-——Sudden Instant Death Syndrome.
