Major Blizzard to Shut Down Boston, NYC Area
Accuweather ^ | 1/25/2015 | Brian Lada

Posted on 01/25/2015 6:06:13 AM PST by dirtboy

major winter storm will unfold across the Northeast early this week, eventually becoming an all-out blizzard over parts of New England and the New York City area. Those in the Northeast should prepare for the storm now rather than wait until the snow starts to fall, especially for those across eastern New England.

"While the storm from Saturday may have been a mere nuisance to travelers and a delight to skiers, the storm Monday night into Tuesday could be far more disruptive in terms of travel and daily activities," said AccuWeather.com Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski.

The greatest impacts are expected along the Interstate-95 corridor from Philadelphia northward where over a foot of snow is forecast to fall. The blizzard also threatens to bring the heavily populated zone from New York City to Boston to Portland, Maine, to a standstill.

I guess New York and Boston didn’t get the memo-the earth is warming at an all-time alarming rate </sarc>.

Freeze, ya friggin Yankee

Real Yankees don't freeze. We throw on the Cat Gear and take the snowmobiles out for a spin, come home at dawn and clear the driveway, and then go skiing. Between the oil furnace, pellet stove, gas fireplace and three regular fireplaces and around 6 chords of wood still on tap, this old house isn't going below 60 degrees any time soon. Life is good.

Southerners are the ones who are to be pitied.

Not everyone in the Northeast are liberals, guy.

Maine has the most conservative governor in America.

Everyone here is well-armed.

The majority of my relatives in Massachusetts and Long Island NY are conservatives.

Even though there is no shortage of moonbat liberals in the Northeast, not everyone in the Northeast drinks the liberal Kool-Aide.

I watch the weather habitually since I work out doors and this blizzard thingy is a very recent development. I wonder why they didn’t seem to know about this yesterday?

The models just started shifting to this yesterday afternoon and they gave it a couple of runs to make sure it wasnt’t just a one-time variance. They started talking blizzard last night.

Given my heritage, born and raised in South Carolina, it is difficult to understand all the hubbub about a foot or two of snow in the Northeast. I have worked with people from all those states who assured me that they go around in two feet of snow the same as if it were not there, yet when it happens we are bombarded with stories of the “blizzard”. I have spent a year in Iceland and have attended company schools in Chicago three times during different winters and the deepest snow I have ever seen fall at one time happened right here where I sit, about seventy miles inland from Myrtle Beach, we had seventeen inches of beautiful powder in ‘73. Further South during the same storm up to twenty five inches was officially recorded. The highways shut down, people spent days in gas stations along the interstates, they were being rescued by helicopter, radio bulletins asked anyone owning a four wheel drive vehicle to call the rescue squad number. Most of us still managed to survive it, is it not really true that folks up North zip around in two feet of snow as if it didn’t exist?

Part of the problem is the population density in many NE cities in MA and NY, and the timing of the snow. The blizzard of 78 left 3,000 vehicles stranded on Rt. 128, and martial law for a time.

Models are still having some problems with this storm. I figure to get about a foot, maybe 14 inches.

Blizzard warning for NYC, 20-30 inches of snow. Here in eastern Philly burbs, warning is for 14-24, map indicates about 18.
