Sheldon Silver’s arrest sends Albany into a state of panic (Democrats lighting candles alert!)

Albany is terrified and in disarray after Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver’s arrest, with lawmakers and insiders fearing he’ll turn on them to save himself.

“People are scratching their heads and saying, ‘What did I say the last time I spoke to Shelly?’ ” one veteran Albany lobbyist told The Post on Friday.

After Silver’s arrest Thursday, US Attorney Preet Bharara hinted at more to come, telling the public to “stay tuned.”

Now legislators are questioning why Silver’s closest Democratic colleagues, including Assembly Majority Leader Joseph Morelle, have pledged support for him instead of calling for his resignation.

“They want Shelly to see that [they aren’t] pulling down his ship. That’s a theory,” said Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney (R-New Hartford). “Why else would you be huddling around to get on TV? They seemed nervous standing around Morelle yesterday.”

NY is starting to rival IL in terms of just pure, criminal corruption.

What a shame.

Silver has 35 criminal counts against him-—he’s in so deep, he has to sing like a bird to get a deal-—or else he’s looking at the Graybar Hotel for a long tme.

And the fit has just hit the shan.

Democrats cannot hope to walk away without being besmirched in some way.

The only way out for them is going through. There is no possibility of a U-Turn at this point.

This may reach high enough to touch New York City internal politics, not the least of whom would be Bill de Blasio himself.

One can only hope.

Actually, New York Democrats invented such politics here, “Tammany Hall” and “Boss Tweed”.

Democrat Gov Andrew Cuomo was on-track to nail Albany’s systemic corruption. His 2013 Moreland Commission was focused on Democrat Silver’s ties to law firms....but Cuomo abruptly shut it down. Thus the US Atty who nailed Silver remains furious at Cuomo and continues to probe Cuomo’s actions.

Cuomo boasted the Moreland panel would dig dirt...trace campaign donations, legislation and pork-barrel
spending to connect the dots to corrupt quid pro quos. “We want to see who gives you money, the legislation you introduce and your member items,” he boasted.

Then Antsy Andy pulled the plug when nervous lawmakers, who had fought the panel’s subpoenas, agreed to toothless ethics rules.

Quelle scandale..... and now Andy’s second term begins with the Silver scandal.

Oh, I think we are right up there with IL. NY pollys are just a tad more discreet.

Those Dems who were interviewed did look pretty wild-eyed though. Even a lot of the Repubs had a look of “oh shit” on their faces.

I believe Shelly has the goods on most of the NY pollys, and I don’t think any of them would dare open their mouths. In fact, they will be tripping over themselves to help that man.

“Albany is terrified and in disarray after Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver’s arrest,”

“...That’s a theory,” said Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney (R-New Hartford).”

Notice the dif between the two sentences?

“NY is starting to rival IL in terms of just pure, criminal corruption.

Illinois gor their “seed corn” of corrupt folks from New York originally, but they’ve “perfected it” to a level to which New York can only aspire. And the New England Sewer of Corrupt People even reached us here in California many years ago. Right now in our State Senate, the RATs have one in the Slammer for corruption and two waiting (on deck) to be tried for gun running and other “minor offenses.” The good news is that even in corruption, they show marked “diversity.” One Black, one Mexican and one Chinese. The Mexican is the first to go to jail, so I am betting a Mexican Al Sharpton will be cranking up any moment staying how “it’s racist that he went in first.”

You might say that the NY Legislature is going to be holding a “Political Bris” for the next few months.

Shelly was always such a tough guy when he ran the Assembly. Let’s see how tough he is now. Will he go down or will he sing and bring a bunch of other Dems with him?

"Sheldon Silver’s arrest sends Albany into a state of panic"

Shouldn't only the corrupt politicians be the ones filling their adult diapers? Or did I miss something interesting?

Or, is it that 80% of government has grown completely corrupt, from the local-level pols padding their retirement accounts, to the highest levels of national politicians stealing everything they can get their grubhooks on? Start feeding that little popcorn-eater nails, when he starts spitting bullets, we'll send him to DC...
