World War II vet works to convince the IRS that he's not dead

iegfried Meinstein discovered that he was dead in April. He seems to be handling the news well.

“It isn’t really a problem in my daily life,” he said, sitting at a table in his Upper Arlington assisted-living facility. “Everybody accepts my money.”

This probably requires a little more explanation, so here it is: The Internal Revenue Service thinks 94-year-old Meinstein bought the farm, bit the big one, took a permanent vacation.

And despite his family’s best efforts, the IRS hasn’t changed its mind.

“If they keep insisting, what is it you say?” Ron Meinstein asked his dad. “‘Eventually, they’ll be right?’”

The debate over Meinstein’s existence began when an accountant attempted to file the elder Meinstein’s taxes online in April. The return was denied. The Social Security Administration had listed the filer as dead, the IRS said.

Meanwhile, they just got another letter from the IRS. It wanted to know why Siegfried Meinstein has a credit balance of $14,000 in taxes he prepaid for 2014.

And why the IRS can’t find his return.

Losing his license would have meant he could not hold his liquor.

If you somehow get declared dead, does that mean you don’t have to pay taxes anymore?

Depends on how you vote - it surely means they don't have to pay him any refunds that may be due...

Yes, that can be a Major problem. I worked at one place Cooking and every Friday night the same two dipsticks (friends until they drank too much) would get into it at the Bar.

The stupid owner would call the Cops. Fine and Dandy except in Texas that means the PD sends a report to the TABC, too many of those and they will pull your Liquor License.

I took over the breaking up by coming out of the Kitchen with a 4 quart sauce pan of smoking Fryer Grease and telling them they had 2 choices:

1) Take it outside.

2) Go to the ER.

They created a 3rd option themselves by immediately apologizing and shutting up.

yes Sir... here in NY it's called An Unruly House and they can and WILL yank yer license if they want to

bars around here try to avoid calling the cops at all costs short of a small riot and like you, deal with it inhouse whenever possible
