HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Seven homeschoolers in Arkansas who were seized by the Garland County Sheriff’s Department this month remain in state custody after a court hearing on Thursday over the matter.
Hal Stanley, a pastor, and his wife Michelle state that they are in shock after their children were removed from their Hot Springs home on Jan. 12 following an anonymous complaint.
The situation began last month as a social worker with the Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) showed up at the Stanley’s door after receiving a complaint that the children were permitted to go outside in the snow barefoot. The Stanleys assured the case worker that everything was fine, and that the children had plenty of shoes, but had a custom of making footprints in the snow for fun.
“We showed her some of the 200 and something pair of shoes and told her—actually the kids told her—how it was their preference to go barefoot and that it was like a tradition to briefly run out in the snow barefoot and take a picture of the footprints,” Michelle Stanley told reporters.

Shocking. Clearly a travesty. Where is a judge or CPS supervisor to immediately correct this?
This is stupid. Kids will be kids. I did this when I was younger. Matter of fact I did it just last year for fun. I actually got my three younger siblings to run around the house once barefoot in the snow with me just for the fun of it. Stupid meddlesome social workers need to back out of this.

The social worker is probably some 26 yr old childless elitist atheist that thinks she “knows better”.

The identity of the anonymous caller needs to be on record as well, for any possible retributions. Once the CPS determines that the “defendant” is ok, they should then investigate the caller.

Of course not. Their house wouldn’t be secretly watched and nobody would care.
State child protective services always walk a fine line, and are roundly damned if they take children away from good parents just as much as if they fail to take children away from abusive, even homicidal parents.
The key to this situation is *who* is making the complaint. If they are a person of good character, it is one thing, but if it is anonymous or by a person known as an irritant, it is another case entirely.
So while there is no way the name of the complainant will be made available to them, they should ask the judge for scrutiny, conducted by the judge, not based on the opinion of the CPS, as to whether the complainant is a “reasonable person.” And, if the judge decides the complainant is “SWATting” them, has a personal grudge against them or their faith, that the judge summarily dismiss any charges or accusations, and order their children returned immediately.
DHS is mentioned as being there. The only reason they would have been there is probably with the parents being preppers and Conservatives and Christians someone claimed they had harmful substances in the home that could be used against other people. There might even be GUNS! Who know maybe even CASTOR OIL!
IMHO this is not about homeschooling or having an non FDA approved mineral supplement it is about government paranoia. No doubt we will next read the parents are involved with a militia movement (according to anonymous sources) and that they listened to radical right wing pundits.
Democrat rule for long enough to put their cronies in as judges and in CPS cause them to see no wrong in this.
boy that is an oddity, when a youngster a neighbor would run around outside of the house butt naked. So everybody in the neighborhood got a free show. When the same neighbor went swimming later that summer became a drowning statistic.
I wonder who filed the complaint.
And why can the government do this WITHOUT SPECIFYING THEIR REASONS WHY? Government employees are supposed to be public SERVANTS, not our OVERLORDS.
This situation reads like a Kafkaesque short story. I hope it doesn't turn out to be a Kafkaesque NOVEL for the sake of this beleaguered family.

If I had to bet, I’d say they the parents know there is a genuine reason for the kids to still be held. Otherwise what sane parent wouldn’t be blowing things up by now?
