Boom! Gun sales look like they're back on track.

Smith & Wesson (SWHC) fired up investors on Tuesday by saying it sees "recent, positive trends" in the consumer firearm market, and that's likely to translate directly into higher profits for the gun maker.

The firearm company feels so confident that it raised its sales and earnings targets for 2015 above what Wall Street had been banking on.

The stock surged nearly 20% as investors cheered the news.

Recently had a friend ask me to teach him about guns. I took him to the range then to a gun show. He bought a 12ga and a Ruger 10/22 and is thinking about a .40 cal. S&W is one of the brands I told him has a very good reputation. There were allot of nice Springfields also.

I was reading some history and saw that S&W had agreed to “Common Sense Gun Control” as the liberals called it - with Clinton, back in the 90s.

Did they end up backing out of that?

With all the damnable Fergusonites and mohammedans that live and are still coming to this great land of mine, all the “OBTW” black on white crime increasing across the land, I see no reason why NOT S & W’s stock and sales are increasing. I wish them a prosperous year!

Yes. New owners took care of that, and wrested control back from twits who sided with Clinton.

I had scores of guns, once — but I lost them; stolen. I didn’t dare report them stolen because I had never registered them; and that would have caused more trouble than it was worth. So those are gone, all gone.
I am thinking about buying some more. But I don’t think I’m going to tell anyone when and if I do.
It’s just one of those subjects that is, you know, kinda personal.

Now only .22 ammo production would catch up to demand.

On March 17, 2000, Smith & Wesson made an agreement with US President Bill Clinton. There was a huge uproar over that move.

On 11 May 2001, Saf-T-Hammer Corporation acquired Smith & Wesson Corp. from Tomkins plc for US$15 million, a fraction of the US$112 million originally paid by Tomkins.

Tomkins PLC bailed out in a hurry after their dumb move.

Remington 870..

No, I would not recommend Remington; sorry it just amuses me to have just about everything except a Remington. Funny thing is I was telling him that he would be paying through the nose for anything that accepted more than 3 shells. He found a “defense” shotgun for under $400 that will accept 1 3/4” shells and hold about 17 of those.

Sweet, nice to know that. I was watching the recent Frontline show on the NRA and they didn’t include the bailing out...but they did (correctly) point out that S&W made the deal and IMMEDIATELY got hammered by gun owners, to the point that their company was virtually worthless overnight. I was wondering what happened after that.

The M&P line of semi-auto pistols are pretty nice. Looking at a Shield if I don’t lose it in an unfortunate canoe accident.

Here is a website that gives a fairly accurate history of Smith & Wesson.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smith_%26_Wesson

Tomkins PLC a London, UK based company made the deal with Clinton and the fireworks began.

After the new owners took over AND President Bush took office the deal fell apart more or less.

I love stories with happen endings, even if I don't own any of their stock.
