Earth's hottest year, and GOP doesn't get it
CNN ^ | January 16, 2015 | Rhea Suh, NRDC president & former Obama official

Posted on 01/19/2015 8:01:56 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

The U.S. ocean, atmospheric and space agencies affirmed on Friday what the planet has been telling us every way it knows how: 2014 was the hottest year since record keeping began in 1880.

That means average land and sea temperatures, worldwide, have never been hotter in modern times, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (the gold standard for global climate data) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (the guys who put a man on the moon).

This isn't about whether we believe in science: It's about whether we believe the thermometer.

In fact, the 16 hottest years on record have all occurred since 1997, the new data confirm, contributing to widening deserts, rising seas, withering drought, ravaging storms, blistering heat and other climate change impacts reaching from the tiniest African village to our own backyards.

Here in the United States, Arizona, Nevada, Alaska and California all wrapped up their hottest years on record. California remains mired in the grip of a three-year drought, its worst in centuries. The Northeast is still rebuilding from Hurricane Sandy. And that was just one of the climate-related disasters that cost this country an estimated $139 billion in damages in 2012 alone....

DATA: The earth has not warmed in 17 years.

DATA: The ice packs at the north and south poles are larger and thicker.

If the earth or the oceans were heating up, then neither of the above statements would be true.

SINCE THEY ARE TRUE .. GET OVER IT.

No, CNN.

Some of us actually have real degrees.

In science.

We learned physics.

And math.

And we know strange things like instrumentation, error bars, principal component anakysis, etc.

And we call thiose who flunked out of our courses journalists.

And politicians.

This ‘news’ along with the fake economic numbers, are then coupled with the fake new 50% approval for Obama to brainwash the masses going into the State of the Union. Will the American people be stupid enough to fall for it...again?

Enacting carbon taxes and more NSA spying should solve the problem.

2014 - the hottest year????

I live in Michigan. The year 2014 began with snow. LOTS of snow. I shovelled my way out EVERY day in temperatures under 10 degrees throughout Jan and Feb.

Summer came very late. I ran the a/c for just 1 week all summer. And I don’t like to be hot.

This ‘report’ is nonsense. How can people believe this stuff over their own eyes???

“So, we’re 38 percent sure that last year was 0.01C hotter than 135 of the 4.54 billion years the earth has been here?”

I think the numbers were 38% likely to be right and 62% likely to be wrong. In other words, they don’t know but can’t/won’t admit that they don’t.

Hottest year? Yeah, all those weird snowstorms obviously point to the hottest year in the history of record keeping.

This winter hasn’t been much outside the norm in Michigan aside from a very cold November.

we had the worst winter in decades here in Ohio last year and the summer was a quite mild and unremarkable. Our farmers, however, had a record harvest. 2013 was pretty good too IIRC.
