What a blithering idiot.

Who cares how Christians would react to the publication of Charlie Hebdo in the USA?

No one would be killed or injured, no offices would be firebombed. I’ve seen Charlie Hebdo’s depiction of the Holy Trinity (I don’t recommend looking for this image). It was disturbing, but I didn’t even get enraged enough to pray for the soul of the person who drew it. (That’s about as extreme as Christians get when provoked.)

The worst thing I can wish for every liberal struggling to create a false equivalency between believing Christians and Islamic fundamentalists is that they one day face the consequences of their actions.

“Michael Steele: If Charlie Hebdo Were Published in U.S., Evangelicals Would ‘Raise Up Mightily’”

But they would not be killing anyone over it. . .and already we have seen worse (’Piss Christ” and Madonna made with elephant dung, etc). No riots and murder.

This is such a load of c***. Do evangelicals, or any other Christian group routinely go to foreign countries to get terrorist training? Have evangelicals, or any other Christian group blown up civilians (or anyone else for that matter) on buses, in restaurants, etc. etc.? Is anyone in hiding because evangelicals, or any other Christian group have threatened to kill them? The list goes on and on and on. I don’t know the context within which Steele made his comments, but to even begin to make these comparisons is pathetic.

I missed the part where they went into the NY Times newsrooms and shot up the staff.

Yeah, I'm surprised that this wasn't on the news or maybe in the NY Times following issue!

Are their people who claimed to be Christians that killed - YES! Did some of them do it in the name of Christ (probably, but the one they always mention Timothy Mcvay did it to go against the government - NOT as an act directed and praised by God).

A true Christian will state his disapproval, may even peacefully picket, or boycott said people, but at the end of the day, a true Christian will pray for those who are so lost and adrift without God!

Muslims will simply KILL YOU! Obviously a, NOT SO SUBTLE, difference between Christianity and Islam!

“Christians are attacked with impunity because they have no religious protocol for revenge.”

Truth.

“As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”—Romans 8:36

There is a Day coming, though, that will close on the slaughterers like trap!

Christians would likely verbalize their disgust, if anyone even cared to ask.

Actually, I think most Christians quietly grieve and shake their heads at all of the blasphemy out there. The difference is that we leave it up to God to avenge. We don’t need to jump in and smite anyone - God can take care of that. The likes of Maplethorpe (I think that’s his name) will give an account. It’s between them and God.

So the former head of the RNC is a muzzie sympathizer!

Just like the current head of the RNC!

Until we ban the queeran, incarcerate and deport the slimes. WE are the prisoners in our own country!

Easiest way to prevent transportation mass murders is to prohibit slimes to be any where near them. Molesting children and the elderly only makes them fall over laughing at us.

The ONLY was to prevent Mohamed from going mohamicidal is to lock him up and ship him out!

He said ...

Now, obviously not to extremes, but there would be a lot of protests against a publication like that.

Did we burn down NYC when the dork artist was using elephant dong as Christ? Nope. We prayed for the poor soul

Steele is making the “moral equivalency” argument that given the same situation, Evangelicals would have a serious problem with it. What he implies is that Evangelical anger (”Rising up mightily”) is the same as Muslim anger (”Armed assault and massacre”).

They are not the same. There’s a rather large difference between arguing, debating, yelling, protesting, contacting advertisers etc...and attacking the magazine offices with machine guns.

Yes, evangelical Christians would be pissed if Charlie Hebdo satirized their religion or their Lord.

But they wouldn't use it as an excuse to hurt anybody at the magazine, or anywhere else.

What kind of moral conflation is Steele trying to accomplish here?

Christians would be very angry under such a circumstance, but they wouldn't turn into blind, rage-filled, savage, mass-murdering animals with no shred of humanity.

And that would make all the difference in the world.

The ignorant shit some public figures say, seemingly just to hear themselves talk, is truly astonishing.

They would most assuredly protest but would not gun down the news staff ...

If CH were published in the U.S. it would get a tax free grant from the NEA for its depictions of Christ and the pope, and then 2 years later be boycotted into nonexistence by the PC crowd for offending Allah...

Nope. They wouldn’t.

They’d roll over and take it, like they have every other insult, infringement, and outrage against the Faith.

Can’t endanger the tax-free status now, can we...

Mammon is proud these days; no “Black Robe Regiments” to worry about anymore.

I don’t know if he (steele) is a muzzie sympathizer or not but he definitely is a mealy-mouth apologist who makes anyone on the right look bad. I can’t get far enough away from him.

“It would be a real, real problem for a lot of grassroots evangelicals out there, particularly with respect to the sense of attack on them personally,” said Steele

This makes me believe that Steele doesn’t know any “grassroots evangelicals”. There are progressives, atheists, postmodernists out there every single day in America mocking Jesus and mocking Christianity, on far greater platforms than a low circulation magazine.

Flip on Nova on PBS. Mockery of Christianity.
Flip on Bill Maher on HBO. Mockery of Christianity.
Read an article in Newsweek or Time. Mockery of Christianity.
Browse to a few videos on youtube and look at the comment section. Mockery of Christianity.

I don’t see any Evangelicals “flipping out” over any of that. What I do see is them saying “well, I’ll never watch/read/buy that again”, and then proceeding on with their lives.

I'm not offended at all.

That's merely the price we pay for freedom of speech.

If free speech isn't absolutely free and free for all, someone will have to arbitrate what can and cannot be said...and that is when this freedom will cease to exist.

Well, let’s just say that dreck is not something you would actually want to butter your bread with, because it would make it inedible :)

He’s pretty stupid. Charlie published many evil blasphemous cartoons that mocked Christianity and no one went postal on them.
