Disneyland measles: Rapid spread concerns health officials

There are now 51 confirmed cases of the highly contagious virus across California, three other states and Mexico, and the Orange County Health Care Agency said the reports of new cases “indicate the measles outbreak will continue to spread.”

Health officials had hoped to contain the outbreak to Disneyland visitors who were at the park between Dec. 17 and 20, when the virus spread from perhaps a single infected person or an ill family. But Orange County is now reporting six new cases of measles involving people who did not visit the Anaheim attraction during that period. State officials said there were two more such cases in Ventura County and one in Alameda County.

This is so potentially bad for Disney’s business, makes one wonder if this wasn’t done deliberately, so another Amusement Vendor could soak up the gravy , so to speak.
Yes, I admit it, I am usually a cynic.

Only neo hippy moron parents who don’t vaccinate their kids are affected.

There also seems to be a push for us all to be ion some kind of perpetual vaccination regimen which wasn’t necessary 30 years ago.

I was vaccinated against the big 4 when I was a kid and I’m done.

“Obola’s unaccompanied children.”

They can’t infect anyone unless idiot liberal parents decide not to vaccinate their children.

There are quite a few “muricans” that are “morans” that won’t get their kids vaccinated because of some fear they have of some government socialism plot or that the vaccine will disable their little ones. Meanwhile they will scream and yell at Doctors for not being able to help their tot when he or she is deathly ill with a disease that could have been prevented..

I noticed that too. First it was ‘Get yer Flu Shot, right over here!” So many did just that, too many. Problem is flu shots can remain effective for a long time, how is a chemical industry supposed to make money like that? The solution, as they see it, is to strongly suggest constant ‘tweeking’ and updates of your present vaccines. I used to hear their have been household suitable light bulbs that last for decades. Investors are usually not interested in supporting a virtual ‘one time use’ product.

In any other state I'd say it was the illegals. In California it appears to be the liberals:

A Times analysis published last September reported that the rise in vaccine exemptions among kindergartners because of parents’ personal beliefs was most prominent in wealthy coastal and mountain communities, such as southern Orange County and the Santa Monica and Malibu areas.

"Health officials had hoped to contain the outbreak..."

Really? Educated people hoped to contain a highly infectious disease at a nexus of travelers from near and far? I don't know why I continue to be amazed at the words spoken by politicians and bureaucrats.

Let’s all hope the measles czar appointed by nobama will be as effective as Ron Klain was for Ebola.

I was there 3 days ago. The fact that the instructions to ride rides had to be repeated twice—once in English, once in Spanish—infuriated me to no end. It’s obvious where this strain of the disease came from. Anyone who claims otherwise is either an idiot or a liar.

Actually, children still get infected even with the vaccine. The vaccine does not guarantee that you won’t get sick. It usually makes it most likely that those who get sick with measles have a milder case that does not last as long. The anti-vaccine garbage spoken by such people as Jenny McCarthy is also wrong. She needs to get over her denial that her kid got autism from the meeting of her genes and Hugh Hefner’s, or whomever the father of her child is, and move on.

flu shots are not effective for a long time. The flu virus mutates and a new vaccine is required for protection. Measles should be boosted as well, as is done in jr hi right now. If there is a large outbreak, we may find out adults need a booster as well. I’m not excited to find out the vaccinations are not effective over age 50... (although I’m old enough I had the measles, so don’t have to worry)

With some diseases, the most permanent immunity comes from actually getting sick with say measles, and recovering.

I think all kids should (and the vast majority do) get vaccinated for the big 3 but anybody who needs a new vaccine every year for the rest of their life has something seriously wrong with them.

I suspect you would find that those of us who don’t run out for the newest fashionable vaccines every year tend to be healthier. I got the recent flu and survived it but I only get the flu about once every ten years.

The real concern will come in a generation or two when the whole population has been overvaccinated.
