KABUKI theatre, that is all Boner is offering the gullible.
The House/Senate really don’t need to pass anything. They simply have to invoke the already passed measures in Simpson/Mazzoli that give Congress an automatic review before any presidential order can add any working illegal to the Social Security roles. Already passed. Already signed. Just waiting for someone to acknowledge they already have this covered.
add self deport and you’ve hit the tri-fecta!...—Hell the Jews in France are already doining it...do we need another lesson??????????????
That's just wrong. (Romney `16, Ewww. After `12 you'd think our fellow voters would realize what he is.)
OK
so if Simpson/Mazzoli isn’t being invoked, doesn’t this mean that this bill is a smoke and mirrors and Kabuki theatre as folks upthread characterized it?
And the defund amnesty is a “hook” to bring in the larger objective, that of funding homeland (in)security?
And that the people in congress have no idea of the power that they already have, I.e. invoke Simpson/Mazzoli?
My sense is they know and are not acknowledging that Simpson/Mazzoli has already stopped in its tracks any effort by the executive to permit employers to include illegals in social security.
Good catch. I kept it.
” The House/Senate really dont need to pass anything. They simply have to invoke the already passed measures in Simpson/Mazzoli “
AHA!
A FReeper with a brain.
“Yep, nothing will come of it. Obama will laugh it off. He could care less about what the House and Senate do.”
Although an extremely remote possibility, ‘what does Obama do’ when “some piece of legislation” is vetoed by him and then approved by 2/3 vote of Congress?
I think he pretty much ignores the override like it never happened. He knows that with two years left (hopefully), he’s immune from any impeachment threat. Republicans will just wait him out and he knows it. So....if you’re in his place you think I’ll just issue an executive order, a memo, or an agency dictate and do whatever I want. To hell with the wimps in congress.
The Republicans don’t want to precipitate a constitutional crisis so they’ll look the other way. Its not how government should run, but the reality is we have a dysfunctional system and for now Obama holds most of the cards and power.
Strong leadership in congress could counter his abuses but we have weak leaders who are only interested in capitulating, caving, and cowering.
Good post. In addition to Simpson/Mazzoli the House also has the power of the purse, but they are not using that to stop Obama either. One can only conclude that there is a lack of will to stand up to executive abuse.
I have to admit I’d think it funny if that drunk’s demise came from an alcoholic drink.
