Walmart employee refuses to print shotgun wedding photo
San Antonio Express News ^ | 01/08/2015 | Craig Hlavaty

A Walmart employee near Richardson north of Dallas refused to print a photo of a man holding an over-and-under shotgun in one of his engagement photos that he and his fiancée had submitted to the store for printing, just days before their wedding.

Stephanie Wehner and her fiancé Mitch Strobl had submitted the photos to Walmart’s online photo lab for printing. In one of the photos Strobl was holding his prized 12-gauge Ruger Red Label over-and-under shotgun.

Wehner is a WFAA-TV employee in Dallas. The couple told their story to the TV station earlier this week. They are due to be wed later this weekend.

It was later learned though that the employee was misinformed and the superstore had no direct policy against firearms in photos they develop and print for customers.

"She was very nice, but very matter-of-fact, like she was not going to budge or give me my photo," Wehner told WFAA-TV.

The clerk told Wehner that the photo couldn't be released because the weapon would promote a "gang culture."

The 12-gauge Ruger though is a common hunting rifle and lists for just under $1,400 on the official Ruger website. Meanwhile Strobl happens to make his living writing manuals for hunting and outdoor recreation types, which would lend itself to spending time outside with a shotgun.

Walmart’s online photo center though does have a terms of use page that says that they do not print photos that include “expressions of abuse, offensive language and/or imagery, obscenity or pornography, including but not limited to: child abuse, child pornography, depictions of minors engaged in sexual conduct or explicitly sexual situations, or any other material that could give rise to any civil or criminal liability under applicable state or federal law, or violating any laws or regulations of any governing body.”

It further states that “unlawful, harmful, threatening, harassing, defamatory, obscene, vulgar, invasive of another's privacy, hateful or otherwise unsuitable as determined by WALMART.COM” would lead to an online account being revoked.

In the photo of Strobl with his shotgun, he and Wehner are show smiling and embracing in a rustic setting.

In a statement a Walmart spokesperson told WFAA-TV that the employee had been misinformed and that the store doesn’t have an antigun policy when it comes to photos.

The couple told WFAA-TV that they are currently looking to get their photos printed elsewhere. Somehow we think they won’t have a problem finding a place to accommodate them.

Walmart sells a variety of firearms, which advertises in stores and on Walmart.com

If that’s what gang members look like in your area then you have bigger problems than a picture.

A joke from my Kentucky-born dad:

Q: How do make a Kentucky wedding more formal?

A: Paint the shotguns white.

One jerk employee does not a business define.

Oddly enough, Wal-Mart can’t even really get sneered at for hiring her, because there is no way they can screen out such people and have enough workers.

If you get hassled by a jerk like this, ask them to show you a printed copy of store policies. Most chain stores have a bunch of these available, so it should be no problem. This should solve any argument.

If the store actually does have that as a policy, then there is no need to snarl at the employee. But if they don’t, point out that they don’t and maybe the employee will back down. If they don’t, then tell their manager.

What’s an optical printer? You mean like a film copier?

Seems like, next, they should refuse to print any photos of people wearing bandanas, which could promote gang violence. Or black hoodies, which could promote crime. and so on.....

>>>Gang cluture....unlike the anti-cop t-shirt that obama’s girl was wearing!<<<

Yes, gang culture. Few people realize that Crips, Bloods and MS-13s frequently use break action over/under shotguns, with 2 round capacities, while committing crimes. Of course when they use them they are actually side by side shotguns as they use the sideways “gangsta” grip. The gangstas who like over/unders carry side by sides. :)

Sorry, but it is a business’ RIGHT. If you don’t like WalMart’s printing services, feel free to use something else.

Besides, who would want to use WalMart printing anyway?

Stupid. Walmart sells guns and ammunition - what was going to happen? The picture of the shotgun would fire?

Agreed. After reading the full article, it sounds like everything was quickly remedied by the store manager and much to the benefit and, hopefully, satisfaction of the customer. It’s up to the store manager to deal with the errant employee. No longer an issue worth prolonged indignation.

When I was a kid, just out of college, I worked in a photolab. This was decades before digital photos.

We had one guy that was a regular. He and his boyfriend would spend time taking photos of each other that were, in a word, disturbing.

We were just the guys getting the prints in envelopes so we had no say. But you can be sure that the entire department store would be snickering when those two faries strolled through the store to pick up their photos.

Just twisted little gay boys.
