A California father was arrested after throwing a party for his daughter’s 18th birthday over the weekend. The theme: “Liv’s Playboy Mansion.”

San Diego County sheriff’s deputies told 10 News that 150 to 200 teens were in attendance Olivia Lake’s birthday party. Many were drinking alcohol and some girls were dressed in lingerie and wearing bunny ears.

Complaints from neighbors led sheriff’s deputies to shut the party down, and Olivia’s father Jeff Lake was arrested and charged with violating the social host ordinance in Poway, Calif. According to 10 News, that ordinance makes it illegal to host a party where underage individuals consume alcohol. It comes with a possible six month jail sentence.

Yeah.
She should be focusing on the prom, school, etc.
Nope.
No, we have been taken down the rabbit hole, without Alice or any other nicety.

Kids emulate what they see and wish to be or what they think is “cool”.
This was parental multifail.
If it were a videogame, there would be a game over screen and a voiceover announcing “epic fail”.

It looks like an individual dive in this situation if only because the expense of a party like that PLUS the liquor would be staggering. Not within a commoner’s discretionary budget.

The answer is God, notice I didn’t even say church... I know firsthand that churches can fail!

” Was worried that Jolie would be too light weight on Japanese behavior with prisoners.”

That was my main worry as well.
Also wondered if she would try to put a bias in there.
How badly did she gloss over religious belief?
That probably would be where any bias she put in there would be.

I wasn’t talking about conservatives.
One can knock New York, and rightfully so, and conservative residents are not included.

Having been a party of and target in a church megafail...
...there were times I said “Lord, save me from your ‘followers’ if You would, please?”
And they were absolutely certain they were doing His work.
Hence why I am unaffiliated, and make no mention of it if I don’t have to.

Oh my. Well I certainly do not preach a denominational Christ.

When Christ truly does get engaged with a group of worshipers it suddenly looks a lot LESS denominational. I have seen it happen to both Catholics and Protestants. I am not satisfied with a scribes-and-Pharisees level of righteousness. That can’t save me from my sins! I know it first hand, and anyhow Jesus DID say so....

Pray to God for those folks to get straightened out if somehow they will allow God to do it (they can refuse) and ask God where to go next. Just a suggestion.

Yeah, it was...interesting.
Because I was not of their particular flavor, in their eyes my marriage was invalid as I was then a “pagan”.

Maybe soon, hopefully I get a solid lead on where to be.

There are most definitely wrong and right things to do with marriage, but it doesn’t help if those who would counsel you about how to do things better are being blatant hypocrites and unforgiving (if that’s the case).

It was a denominational peeing contest basically.
Since I didn’t belong to theirs, they disapproved.
*shrugs*
Still, it was discouraging.

I am thinking that there is more to this story than you just being wound up over the defense of those good California fathers that are not nut jobs. The threats you have made (which would get you banned on most forums) , the level of offense, and the hyperbole in your posts leads me to conclude that you have a personal stake in this accusation.

I would urge you to consider why it is that a conservative father, which I assume you are, would even want to live in the land of “fruits and nuts.” California’s state laws, what is tolerated as normal in most places there, and the general moral decline of its population would cause me to relocate.

There is actual data on this subject and, if you would care to read it, you would see that your efforts to blame New York or Ohio for California’s moral decline are misplaced. California is and has been for decades the national leader in moral decay. There are books on the subject. Reasons for it. But, to blame it on others is just silly.

Ask yourself: “why am I so personally afraid (and therefore angered) about this topic?” If it is your fear of powerlessness over the dark forces in California, vote with your feet. Its not just another place with a segment of bad folks. It is the epicenter of bad folks. It is ruled by bad folks, for bad folks. Over the long run, God will take care of this. Over the short run, you are living the life of a Christian in Abu Dhabi.

At least move east of the Fault line. :)

My go odness, anton. Talk about hyperbole! Sorry to have
to tell you this but you are farther out in the weeds than
you can know. I don’t defend many things about California
these days but there is so much bogus matter in your post
that I am obliged to say something. I do live East of the fault line. Should I move to Vegas or Reno? Now there are
two bastions of morality! Am I better off living in Redding,
California or Cincinnati,Ohio? The answer starts with an R.
Good schools, far less crime, more conservative leadership
including a Republican congressman. Please cite me some
specific state laws that make California so radically worse
than Ohio to reside in. Then tell me where in Ohio I can
go crabbing, dove hunting, and snowboarding on the same
day. Anton, sir, please ponder your own Midwest universities.
Like what you see? That is not the fault of California.
This country has big problems, much bigger than California.
Anton, please read my bio. Also please ponder the rural vs
urban aspect of my previous post and this one too. ;-)

Gloss over religious belief?

******************************
Only about five coats of verathane.

Zamperini’s war time tribulations were featured.
His post war battle with booze and his conversion
not addressed except as a postscript. SURPRISE!
The vast story would have been better told in
a (hold nose) HBO series format like Band of Brothers.

OK, so you are not talking about conservatives.
Fine, I can accept that except what about the next guy
who posts something similar? Does he know or care that
there are actually conservative Californians? That is
not your problem, Darksheare, it is my dilemma and it turns your post into my dilemma, as well. I have posed
questions to posters and the responses have been all
over the map.

Oh boy.
This is Jolie’s first time directing?
If not, does she have a pattern of such glosscoat hackery would be the next question.

*shrugs*
I’m not the next guy and cannot speak for them.

Side thought, some state legislatures still have a sleight sense of shame.
If the mockery was loud enough, long enough, and directed enough, they might alter their behavior.
(Borrowing from the other sides playbook on use of ridicule there.)
Worked on some of our local reps, they didn’t seem to like being mocked much.
Heck, bugging Boehner got him to respond by claiming he isn’t a “squish”, lol.

But how to coordinate it to be coherent, and how to tailor it to the specific state?

OK, I get it. You drank the Cool Aid and it still tastes like vintage wine to you. We here in fly over territory do not try to convince the lost souls like yourself that we have better schools (which we do), more affordable housing (which we do), more representative government (which we do), more conservative government(which we do), lower taxes, more spendable income and more personal freedom.

But, the fact that you can tolerate life in California tells me more than anything I could find in your bio which I did read.

Good luck to you. But, while you are waiting for the Cool Aid to turn to wine, I suggest that you stop beating up people who think you are nuts. It goes with your territory. Accept it.

Fight Club flagging would make it possible for both of you to continue to argue, but no one else would see it.

Anton, the first thing I thought when I finished
your last post was that I hope that you don’t have to
ever consume food produced in the evil California soil!
Heck, I was going to invite you to come out and do
some trout fishing and complete the day with a bottle
of some of the world’s best wine produced over in the
Napa Valley. But I sure would not want you to dip your
toes in the waters of hell and drink my Cool Aid. And
speaking of drinking Cool Aid my family has been in
California for four generations yet you say I have
been brain washed? The Rust Belt has been leaking
population for how long? I won’t judge you for staying.
I do not live by politics alone but I will
allow for the possibility of pulling up stakes.
But have you read some of things FReepers
say about California transplants? I’ll stay and
vote for the most conservative candidates I can find.
But let me know when Jim Robinson moves from Fresno
to Akron and I’ll rethink my options.

BTW....Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. I love my old school.
We lost some football players in a Bowling Green
plane crash back in ‘60. Sad.

Jolie made a movie about a guy who went through some
serious life challenges including 47 days at sea in a
life raft followed by 2 years very harsh imprisonment
by cruel Japanese. He prevailed through strength of
character. If people love the book they will need to
personally photo shop the spirituality into the movie
if they want to love the movie too. That is the best
way I can describe it.

I appreciate your shrugs. It is exactly what I meant
when I stated that it is not your problem.

When the MSM talks about California they are talking
about LA and SF. New York has a parallel issue. The
impression left is that all of the state is like LA
and SF. That is a lie. Now, FReepers have little respect
for the MSM but too many FReepers buy the MSM lie about
a monolithic California. BTW the Democrats love and foster
the “we’re all Democrats so don’t even try here” image.
I would like for as many FReepers as possible to know
the real story and that is why I am here tilting at
windmills.
