GOP Tensions Escalate After Speaker Vote
The National Journal ^ | January 7, 2015 | DANIEL NEWHAUSER

Posted on 01/08/2015 3:27:46 AM PST by Timber Rattler

ank-and-file Republicans are fuming at what they see as the heavy-handed tactics of Republican leaders, one day after a divisive vote that narrowly handed Speaker John Boehner the gavel for another term.

Members who opposed Boehner on the floor are frustrated that two rebels have already been stripped of committee assignments, while the speaker's allies, angered by an embarrassingly close vote that played out on national television, warn darkly of more punishment to come. And some conservatives who backed Boehner complain that they are now facing a different kind of retribution—from the Right.

(snip)

Retribution is not being enacted simply against those who participated in the attempted coup, and members are using that fact in a plea for leniency for their colleagues. Members who have often butted heads with the speaker but who voted for him on Tuesday said leadership should understand they are facing consequences from the Right for supporting Boehner in the face of an onslaught of people demanding they depose him.

Rep. Raul Labrador rose in front of his colleagues at Wednesday's Conference meeting and said he has already drawn a primary challenge over his vote for Boehner. Labrador read from his smartphone from the more than 4,000 comments people had posted on his Facebook page, including one calling him a "scumbag asshole" for supporting Boehner—and joked that it's all true. Conservative talk-radio host Mark Levin had specifically directed listeners to target Labrador for his vote, he noted.

Other members spent Wednesday afternoon defending their vote for Boehner to local press, and some said that after December's omnibus vote and Tuesday's display on the House floor, they have never been under more pressure from constituents.

who participated in the attempted coup

This episode just further illustrates what is wrong in DC. Our elected representatives get punished for going against the establishment line and voting their constituents preference.

Rep. Peter King said that if this had happened in New York state politics, the consequences might have been more severe. "Guys take on a speaker and lose, they're never heard from again," he said.

That took my breath. I'm done, especially after reading a logcabin piece posted here that called conservatives anything but human beings. Why would I want to do a damn thing for a group such as the repugnant party. They want me gone, I'm gone.

From the beginning, if Boehner had any sense of honor about him, he would have stepped aside. When 60% of Reps wanted him out....

I think you should go back to DU. This is a conservative forum, not a Republican forum.

conservatives who backed Boehner

No such thing.

If you backed Boehner you are not a conservative in any meaningful sense.

And so when a RINO comes into the Third party then what, Form a fourth party?

Do you understand the cowardice of your pacifism? I'm calling it like I see it.
you're delusional. Not only that but it would certainly hand over every election
from here to eternity to the GOP and the RATs.

Now why don't you give me your argument in favor of that Third party and
sell me on it. I'll try to keep an open mind.

Face it, once they are in office we have no influence on our elected representatives. The only thing we can and must do is everything in our power to ensure those who voted for Boehner get removed in their next primary. Don’t let time reduce your outrage, carry it with you to that primary.

Thank you for making another good point. Third party, not if hell freezes over.

I was recently admiring Marsha Blackburn now that’s gone. Any Republican who votes for the liar boehner gets no support from me.

Her support for Lamar! in the last primary was a pretty good clue to me of her core. But, I know the feeling. Phil Roe (TN-1) got absolutely savaged for his Yea on Cromnibus; and silly me held out hope that he would respond to that message in the Speker vote.

Hopefully, this will be Boehners last term. With any luck he will retire to his 3/4 of a million dollar SW Florida condo and hopefully never be heard from again until emphysema takes its course.
What we need to do is prepare a new conservative leader to take his place two years from now.

I think you have failed to see my point. You say you prefer the dishwater Republicans to any potential conservative Third Party. If you don’t want to advance conservative ideals, you should leave this forum and go to DU.

Perhaps we need to find out what compelling “dirt” it is that the Obama and Jarret have on Boehner. Perhaps it can be used to prosecute him????

The GOP CREATED RomneyCARE and RomneyMarriage
and STILL SUPPORTS both - and arming al Qaeda —
against its voters.

The GOP is the DNC.

My guess is that Boehner is little more than a corrupt politician who has been compromised by the left for some time.

He has probably played fast and loose in his supposed not so blind trust with stocks. And, rumors are he had two gal pals one a lobbyist. He probably has been compromised just like the regime did to John Roberts for smuggling in his kids from Central America. It's who they are.
