Traditional values groups are rallying around an Army chaplain who was rebuked by his commander for distributing information on Christianity during mandatory suicide prevention training. Twenty nonprofit organizations dedicated to religious freedom have signed a letter to Army Secretary John McHugh, urging him to overturn action against Capt. Joseph Lawhorn, an evangelical and onetime infantryman.

His commander, Col. David Fivecoat, who heads the brigade at Fort Benning, Georgia, that molds new Rangers, issued a “letter of concern” on Thanksgiving. He took action after one soldier complained to the website MilitaryAtheists.org, which posted an article. The atheist group later said it “appreciates and commends” Col. Fivecoat.

Capt. Lawhorn had spoken and distributed one page of religious material to soldiers Nov. 20 on how his faith helped him overcome bouts of depression. Suicide in the ranks has been a major Army problem amid deployments to long wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Michael Berry, a reserve Marine Corps judge advocate who is representing Capt. Lawhorn, called Col. Fivecoat’s letter “knee-jerk.”...

Luke 6:22 - Blessed are ye , when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.

The best military in the history of the world . . . without Jesus.

That’s, forgive me, Hitler’s military.

What is sick is that if the same suicide prevention class was done thanking Allah and his prophet (pig excrement be upon him), it would have been embraced open arms!?!

Why not just replace chaplains with political officers and be done with it.

Why are these atheists and their minions so afraid of the cross? Why do they want to cut a secure and proven lifeline?

Be careful of what you wish for. (I know. It was sarcasm)

But I believe its just a matter of time before chaplains are removed from the military and Christians will be forced to denounce their faith.

I have never understood this. If atheists truly believe what they say, that Christianity is nothing more than a myth, how can Christian literature bother them? It's all a myth, right? Shouldn't this be funny to them?

Or maybe, just maybe, they're not so sure and don't want to face anything that might lead to doubt about what they're doing???

My favorinte chaplain is Marine Otto Sporrer. He was awarded a Silver Star for taking command, and saving American lives, in the Chosin Resevoir area, Chesty was quite proud of him.

What’s to understand?

You have ONE Faith that offends literally all of humanity and people wonder why?

Not even the Islamic faith that butchers, maims, and kills people by the tens-of-thousands is as hated as Christianity.

Violent Buddhists are never condemned, primitive tribal cannibal cultists aren’t condemned, not even satanists are condemned really.
But Christianity is the most bashed religion and branded as “intolerant” by every media outlet the world over.
Why is that you say?

Because the father of lies HATES (& with the fire of a million suns) Christianity and the God behind it,that condemned him to an eternity in the lake of fire.

Atheists may claim they are “atheist”, but they in fact hate God too and know He exists, otherwise they’d pay about as much lip service to Christianity & Christians as they do to zoroastrians.

If anything, this hatred for “intolerant” Christianity is nothing more than a confirmation that there is indeed something up with it and those that ask the question, “why does everybody hate Christianity & Christians” should start considering that supernatural forces could be a part of that hatred.

John 14:6

No other religion in the world paints a formal and narrow path on how to be “saved” or “how get to heaven”. That path is Christ & Him only. Every other religion is a mishmash of works and nonsense.

If atheists truly believe what they say,

Look homeward, Angel ... Beliefs belong in church.

Exactly! How about the atheist that devotes his life to disproving God. If there is not God, why do you have to disprove him?!? Like devoting your life to disproving the tooth fairy, right?

Not to denigrate his service, but his awards were for other action besides the Chosin Reservoir. Action dates: 7 and 18 Aug 50.

Try preventing a suicide without explaining God or a ultimate higher moral truth. It ain’t gonna happen.

In fact, it will encourage more suicides.

Here's the "story" about Sporrer ...

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star (Army Award) to Lieutenant Commander (CC) Otto E. Sporrer (NSN: 0-215778), United States Navy, for gallantry in action against an armed enemy while serving as Chaplain, First Battalion, Eleventh Marines, First Provisional Marine Brigade, in action in the Yongsan area of the Naktong River, Korea, on 18 August 1950. On this date, Lieutenant Commander Sporrer, in his capacity as Catholic Chaplain visited the forward aid station of the Fifth Marines, then in attack on enemy positions of the ridges west of the Naktong River. Learning that a number of wounded were on the ridges awaiting evacuation, Lieutenant Commander Sporrer organized a litter bearing team of Korean Civilians, and, showing a high degree of courage and skill, led them through heavy small arms, automatic weapons, and mortar fire. By his leadership and example, Lieutenant Commander Sporrer encouraged the litter team to continue even after they had been pinned down by enemy fire. He then succeeded in evacuating a number of seriously wounded to the aid station. The gallantry displayed by Lieutenant Commander Sporrer reflects great credit on himself and the United States Naval Service. General Orders: Headquarters, VIII U.S. Army, Korea (EUSAK), General Orders No. 162 (November 8, 1950) Action Date: August 18, 1950 Service: Navy Rank: Lieutenant Commander Company: Chaplain Battalion: 1st Battalion Regiment: 11th Marines, 1st Provisional Marine Brigade Division: 1st Marine Division (Rein.)
