I could be wrong, but I suspect this is some feel-good project supported by government funding.

Some well connected political supporter unloading out of date shipping containers.

Can you imagine the cost of converting these if you had to pay UAW wages?

HSV has had its share of tornadoes. Think the last bad one was a few years ago. Our power was out for about a week. It hit every substation bringing power here. People were really nice about taking turns at the lights. We took them as 4 way stops and took turns. Our tv stations go to full time weather coverage for storms. We watched the one about 1974 form in west AL. People complain but I want to know what is headed my way. In 1974, the tv stations lost power and got generators, Doppler radar, etc. One moved from the mountain to the valley.

We used these in Afghanistan. No plumbing but they were wired.

There are several Sears & Roebuck homes in our neck of the woods. Most are hard to recognize because of alterations over the years. The entire house arrived in a rail car and could be assembled by the buyer or through a contractor arranged by Sears. Everything was included down to the nails and hardware.

I still think that us one of the ugliest buildings I have ever seen.
What were they thinking? Maybe they weren’t.

Bill Clinton wanted it to look like a great big double-wide.

He figured it would pull in a lot of hot chicks.

Rush always talks about Bill’s “love nest” on the top floor.
With Hillary out of DC again and back to NYC, BJ is probably spending a lot more time in Arkansas.

Many companies did this. Medallion homes is another example. When I did renovation work you could see the carriage bolts through the studs holding the framing panels together. House panels came on a tractor trailer.

Then there were the old surplus Quonset huts.

I'd build one like this one:

I love the rugged industrial bauhaus look. Clean and simple home.

If you are tired of a plain boxy house, here is the ticket:

Maybe not plain enough for some folks. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Hey, I'd like one of those houses!

Lessee, figuring the cost... Translating at 20:1 inflation over a century, that's about $15,000 in today's money, but using gold, Translating from $20/oz. back then to present prices, it's more like $38,000 or so, built on your lot... Add a few Windows and a couple of other amenities (like a rooflet over the back porch, extra Windows all 'round, central heat and a full bath, a steel-frame freestanding garage (and full-sized fallout/storm shelter underneath), and some trees.... And presto, you' re done!

Future Rat-run.

It screams Socialism = no pride, no ownership, no care, no security either after a while. Typical top-down Bauhaus stuff. Corbusier would be amused by the colors, enthralled by the.... Prole-cramming.

Plenty of rats, later on. Two- and four-legged.
