During election season, one of the most common refrains to bring a reluctant party faithful to the polls is "the most important vote that will be cast is the first one for Speaker."
Nothing has changed.
The Speaker election and indeed all House leadership elections are determinative for the next two years, and cannot easily be undone. So, when Republican members of Congress come back to D.C. next week and are sworn in, they make their first and most important vote.
Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is a known quantity, and for those newly elected members, the lame-duck session demonstrated what his speakership will be about for the next two years.
The seminal votes on both the rule for the government funding bill known as the "cromnibus" and the final passage of the bill showed the tenuous position the Speaker finds himself in and reveals his decision-making in crisis. The rule passed by a swing of one vote, garnering 214 Republicans for it with the remaining House Republicans opposing along with the Democrats.
However, the bill itself found even more opposition with 67 Republicans or 27 percent of the Republican conference voting nay, and Boehner choosing to depend upon President Obama to deliver the needed Democratic votes for passage.
It could be this decision that threatens the Speaker's ability to retain his post, as evidenced with stories from The Daily Caller "Conservative lawmakers plan to vote against Boehner for Speaker" or calls from conservative talk-show hosts Sean Hannity and Mark Levin to replace him.
Traditionally, the House is run by the majority political party, and a leadership team's job is to put together legislation that can get 218 of their colleagues from the same party for passage.

“Every single incoming House member knows that the vote for Speaker is the most important vote they cast, and in the wake of the lame-duck session momentum is building to reject John Boehner. It is going to be an interesting weekend in Washington.”
Bttt
Boehner is a corrupt SOB who speaks out of both sides of his mouth. I would vote for Pelosi over Boehner. At least with Pelosi, you know what you are getting.....
Won’t happen. DC RINOs rule the roost!
if they vote against this dog and the dog wins they will never get good assignments on committees.
They may not get good assignments, but atleast they will win re-election in 2016 with dignity.
If they vote for Boehner again, they will be held responsible for all the funny business he accomplishes for Obama and the democrats.
All members should grow a spine. NO one should vote for Boehner OR Mitch.
We The People have spoken. Don’t waste a vote for these two old dogs.
Call your local offices and DC offices. Voice your opinion NOW.
‘’Jeopardy’’ is a television program; it does not describe the condition of the popular liberal Republican House Speaker. Members think they won big in 2014 “because of” Boehner, not in spite of him. The members we have don’t give us much confidence for the next two years and beyond for that matter.
If there is to be a revolt, nothing will be said about it beforehand, despite the entreaties of the media *demanding* to know about it, and offering up replacements who will all reject the offer to its face.
Any congressman who leaks is going to be ruined. Operational Security is critical until the vote is taken.
And the media will again be jackasses, acting totally surprised that Boehner was overthrown.
For his part, Boehner is probably trying to maneuver some way that Democrats could vote for him as the new speaker, to overcome those Republicans opposed to him. (This is what the “Republican” Speaker of the Texas House did. He had just a small handful of Republican votes, but all the Democrats voted for him.)
Which is why, if there aren't 29 votes to sack Boehner, the challenge won't materialize.
TS. They're the ones who wanted the job, now it's time for them to do it. Time for them to all stand together, vote this drunk MF out and stick his ass in the basement office next to the freight elevator.
(Can someone post that really nice picture of Marsha Blackburn again?)
Unfortunately, I doubt that Bohner will be replaced, too many rinos and all the demodummies will support him.
Boehner ought to decline to run rather than divide the party as he is
Liberal republicans and Chamber of Cronies stooges have no problem dividing the party. Conservatives too frequently hold their noses for the sake of party unity. That is why liberal republicans rule the party.
I wish he’d get the sack but I think you need 29 no votes to stop his re-election. I read they only have 16-18 votes. Boehner will likely retain his speakership for 2 more years. Although it was heartening to see Levin and Hannity step up.
quite correct there Moorings,
I’ve voted for slobs like Rubio, Bush, Dole, McLame, Mitt, for what seems like forever.
I’ve turned a new leaf and I will NEVER again vote for a RINO like these lame asses again.
Real small gub mint conservative or kiss my ass.

No! Only after you pass the bill.
