How Do You Show Up at a David Duke Event and Not Know What It Is? (Steve Scalise)

In 2002, a year after not long before Trent Lott was driven from office in December of 2002, for his statements about support Strom Thurmond, Rep. Steve Scalise, now the number three Republican in the House of Representatives, went to a David Duke organized event.

How do you not know? How do you not investigate?

David Duke is the reasons I am no longer a resident of Louisiana. After supporting Edwin Edwards in the gubernatorial race against David Duke in 1991, I knew I had to get the hell out of a state where those were the two most popular choices.

I moved to Georgia to go to school and could only now consider moving back thanks to the hard work of Governor Bobby Jindal.

By 2002, everybody knew Duke was still the man he had claimed not to be. EVERYBODY.

How the hell does somebody show up at a David Duke organized event in 2002 and claim ignorance?

Trent Lott was driven from the field in 2001 for something less than this.

And the very GOP establishment now lining up behind Steve Scalise threw Chris McDaniel under the bus for speaking to a Sons of the Confederate Veterans event.

"And the very GOP establishment now lining up behind Steve Scalise threw Chris McDaniel under the bus for speaking to a Sons of the Confederate Veterans event."

Scalise will likely be protected because he's a worthless go-along. Hopefully, this news will convince somebody to both challenge him for his Whip position, AND to primary him next year!

Isn’t it ironic, that a white racist, and possibly even a white racist who has forsaken racism, never ever will have forgiveness, but if a POS like Al Sharpton ever forsakes racism, he would be forgiven in one second. Maybe not by many of us, but the Media sure would forgive him.

He had to leave Louisiana because he didn’t like its politicians ?
That’s taking political obsessions too far.
If the bad politicians were making life uncomfortable on some concrete level, such as there was high unemployment and it was hard to find work, or taxes were too high, that’s one thing, but it seems rather fanatical to put such personal weight on politics without such a personal impact.

This was not directly his fault. His staff was incompetent. He 'might' have known, but his staff should have vetted this request. Same with campaign contributions.

“How do you not know? How do you not investigate?”

The same way the Democrats looked the other way while a KKK member (Imperial Wizard), Senator Byrd (a Democrat) controlled the Senate for more than 40 years without a single word from Democrats!

Seriously? You do know the FBI. Covered for Whitey Bulgar, the Attorney General smuggled weapons, blah blah blah and you are suprised Trent Lott courted the white supremacist in his home state?

LOL!
Scalise is one of the (sorta) good guys.

Scalise’s first effort as whip resulted in the blocking of an amnesty bill of Boehner’s.
Boehner then cracked down on him by installing a ‘keeper’ on Scalise’s staff.
Obviously Boehner now wants him removed.

Scalise is in a conservative district and has a conservative voting record.

My guess is the establishment doesn’t want him.

Beats me, Erick, How does someone sit in Jeremiah Wright's church for TWENTY YEARS and claim ignorance?

Of course, the _Resident has been ignorant all his life.

“How Do You Show Up at a David Duke Event and Not Know What It Is? (Steve Scalise)”

The same way you go to Jeremiah Wright’s “church” for years, hearing anti-white and anti-American sermons yet dodn’t seem to hear any of that or realize there is an issue. If that was a non-issue, Erick, then same with Scalise. (Who, if he is kicked out of the Republican “leadership”, should be kicked out for falling in line with Boehner’s shenanigans, not for attendance at a 2002 white group outing.)

It appears Louisiana has moved past edwards and duke. They’ve dumped crooks, klansmen and democrats.

How do you go to a Black Supremist church for 12 years, sit in the FRONT PEW, but remain absent for ALL of the times the famously racist Preacher said racist stuff...?

Same for Oprah, I believe.

Or:

Maybe per Al Gore after a lot of iced-tea he visited the commode when they said the bad stuff.?

Sheesh, there are TONS of ways, it occurs to me, now.

“Scalise is in a conservative district and has a conservative voting record.

My guess is that after his actions with the Cromnibus, somebody in Louisiana leaked some information to take out one of Boehner’s leadership team.

We’ll see which is true. Keep in mind this is coming up right before the new congress convenes. I’d love to see a whip race. Remember that Newt Gingrich became speaker because he won a whip race.
