Death penalty states unmoved by botched execution
San Jose Mercury News ^ | December 27, 2014 | Sean Murphy

Oklahoma's last execution went so badly that the state tried to cancel it before it was over. With the inmate writhing while the lethal drugs seeped into his body, his executioners drew the viewing gallery curtains, concealing what the warden later described as "a bloody mess."

The botched execution of Clayton Lockett in April and other troubling ones this year in Ohio and Arizona gave capital punishment opponents a flicker of hope that areas of the country that most enthusiastically support the death penalty might have a change of heart. They didn't.

Sure it is. Some people just need killing.

When bo releases those Gitmo folks, hire them for this type of work. Like Jihad John does. Rehabilitation at work.

The only problem I have with that is that you will end up with murders claiming to be claustrophobic that will claim to be panicked with a mask on.

That feeling of panic will be considered cruel.

Of course that will be nonsense because who isn’t panicked going to their execution.

Ya know...dead is dead...but a rope is cheap and effective.

Reusable and for this purpose probably will never wear out. Especially if you use a synthetic fiber rope.

See all you liberal it’s GREEEN!

Industrial water cutter guillotine.
Cheap, and fairly idiot proof.

Pray for the end to all death penalty sentencing. It’s just not our job.

Yes it is! Those who have committed murder by taking an innocent life need to be accountable to society for their unlawful deeds. It's "justice" by a society you liberals wouldn't understand.

In Texas, you kill us, we kill you back. It's our culture and heritage. We can't help it. Some people just need killing. Another thing you liberals do not understand.

On a scriptural point, it's a society thing, not an "eye for an eye" vengeance taken by an individual. Do you know the difference between society and individual responsibility? Ever hear of stoning someone? If we hit them in head with a rock would you feel better.

Look at this way, it also cleans up the gene pool. Now do you understand? Good, I thought so.

Scripture says otherwise.
I will take God as my moral compass over you.

Scripture does not. Anywhere.

Are you not familiar with Levitical law?

Thou shalt not kill? The proper translation is thou shalt not murder.

What is wrong with a length of rope? Plus, if budgets are tight you can use it over and over.

Is he dead? then it was not botched.

For a good example of a botched execution, see Kenneth McDuff.

In the 1960s McDuff kidnapped, brutally raped and murdered a teenage girl after murdering her boyfriend and her cousin. He was convicted and got sentenced to the death penalty for each murder. His execution was botched when the Supreme Court threw out the death penalty.

He was released after serving 20 years in prison. He promptly resumed raping and murdering women. He was caught, convicted and again got the death penalty. This time his execution was not botched and he was successfully executed.

Kenneth McDuff is also a good example of why we need a death penalty.

The most recent & most comprehensive study done on the death penalty claimed that executing one murderer saved 10 other people from being murdered. (referenced by Lars Larson, Oregon & national radio host).

“But if you do wrong,be afraid, for he does not wield the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoers.” Romans 13:4

The “he” referred to is the king, as we see in the previous verse. In our case, it is the state. God demands order and justice and has appointed the government as his servant to carry out his vengeance against heinous wrongdoers.

...there is no guarantee of a painless execution.

If you want painless:

Guillotine
Freezing
Hypoxia
Carbon Monoxide (a type of Hypoxia)
Competent Firing Squad

It’s just not our job.

Would you explain your reasoning?

Personal squeamishness?

If religious, please enumerate Scriptural references.

Are you opposed to the Death Penalty?

Are you a complete Pacifist, i.e. no defensive war?

Are you opposed to self defense?

If you would answer "No" to the above three questions, if carrying out the Death Penalty is "not our job" then whose job is it?
