When a gate agent greeting everyone the same way told him "Merry Christmas", he responded "You shouldn't say that because not everyone celebrates Christmas."
"Well, what should I say then?" the agent reportedly replied.
"Don't say, 'Merry Christmas!'" the man retorted, now shouting, before walking past her onto the plane.
After a flight attendant greeted the unidentified man with the same Yuletide cheer, he snapped and began lecturing the staff about why they shouldn't say "Merry Christmas." The crew unsuccessfully tried calming him down before he was escorted off the plane.

Something tells me this person was more leftist than Jewish. Most Jews, such as I, have nothing against Christmas. I routinely wish people a "Merry Christmas" when out shopping during the holiday season. The kind of behavior you describe is typical of a progressive control freak, not of a normal Jew.
I contacted American Airlines to thank them for the crew’s Merry Christmas greeting and asked them not to stop the practice.

If I am in Israel, I am not offended that I can’t get a cab after dark on Friday.

I have taken to answering “Happy Holidays”, especially after Chanukah is over, bu saying, “Oh really? What holiday are you referring to?”

I think I have heard “XMAS” a few times, but agree the full word is much more often spoken. I have had people tell me their church was against writing “Xmas” but I believe as a written abbreviation it is historically and religiously appropriate.
