Common Core State Standards aren’t so easy to replace
Washington Post ^ | 12/24/14 | Michael J. Petrilli, Michael Brickman

**SNIP**

Starting from scratch, on the other hand, pulls the rug out from under educators who have spent almost five years implementing Common Core in their classrooms. “You just get frustrated and tired with trying to appease people who really have no idea what’s going on with you day to day,” one kindergarten teacher told Mississippi’s Clarion-Ledger. “It’s just really mind-blowing that this is something they’re considering doing at this point.” Teachers are all too familiar with the fad du jour. Policymakers promised them that Common Core would be different, that it would have staying power. Teachers are right to be angry at those broken promises, especially because so much of the backlash to Common Core has little to do with the standards themselves.

So raise standards beyond Common Core? Sure — but you’d better make sure it’s not all talk and no action.

They are if you dispense with the validation part, which is what Common Core did.

http://pioneerinstitute.org/featured/common-core-english-and-math-standards-not-properly-validated/

Five of the 29 members of the Common Core Validation Committee refused to sign a report attesting that the standards are research-based, rigorous and internationally benchmarked. The final validation report omitted mention of the dissenters, which is highly unusual, not to mention unethical.

No member of the Validation Committee had a doctorate in English literature or language and only one held a doctorate in math, and he was one of the members who refused to sign. He was one of only three members with extensive experience writing standards. Two of those three refused to sign off on the standards.

“Since all 50 states have had standards for a decade or more, there is a pool of people out there experienced in writing English and math standards,” said Ze’ev Wurman, author of “Common Core’s Validation: A Weak Foundation for a Crooked House.” “It’s unclear why so few of them were tapped for the Common Core Validation Committee.”

Common Core State Standards aren’t so easy to replace

Sure they are, a little Latin in the lower grades, rigorous American History, Geography, traditional math, algebra, geometry (no calculators) Supply Side Economics, Ethics, starting in the first grade with "The Golden Rule" Etiquette, mandatory chemistry and physics in High School

No education majors or career "educators" only college grads teaching their major before they move on to a career, or retired professionals.

Did I leave anything out?

I have tried to help students in math where CC is being instituted. It is next to impossible. Their parents haven’t a clue to what is going on. The students have no text book to bring home but only “worksheets”. To multiply 123 times 456 should take less than 30 seconds. By their methodology; 10 to 15 minutes if it is your first time.
Don’t count on “dropping in” to monitor your child’s class presentation.
Last night I was telling my 4th grade grandsons a bedtime story. It was about when I was a child our house burned to the ground because the fire engine did not have enough hose to get down to the creek. My grandson said we should have sued the town like Rosa Parks did. ..He’s in the “gifted class”.

What they are basically saying is that they haven’t figured out how to teach kids reading, writing, and arithmetic.

Here’s a math problem I’d like to see:

If you line up 20 communists against a wall and shoot them, and 19 of them die, how many of them will be evil demented scumbags from hell?

Are the State funded teacher colleges teaching Common Core?

Have you asked your elected School Board members how much they know about Common Core ?

The teachers in our area have regular training sessions on the CC standards. It seems like they are once a month. They do the sessions by grade level (for elementary) and have substitutes come in to teach their classes. When the first grade classes had one of their meetings, the students were in the middle of learning some algebra addition and subtraction lessons. The subs were told, “Just skip this if you want. Or teach it the old way.” The teachers have issues with the lessons they have to cover. Some modify the lessons. Some follow along. They do not know what materials will be on the quarterly tests that are sent to the schools from some central office.

Why not just reinstate whatever existed the day before the “Common Core Curriculum” was adopted?

Yep. Ayers likes to crow about the success of their educational plans. Common Core is just the latest name for it.

There is a video of him speaking candidly to a group of graduate students where he claims success in public education. If I can find it again I need to post it.

Why would he be so happy? They started in the inner city schools in the 70s and worked to implement what is now considered Common Core education. They began testing new kinds of ideas with kids whose parents would not kick up a fuss like suburban school parents always do.

They started with situation ethics and sex education and then worked to tuck that same type of emphasis into the other classes like math and science. If you ever wonder why the lessons seem so screwy that is why.

The result is not to enable a kid to think.

The ultimate goal is to turn our kids brains into tools for the state.

It should really be called Commie Core.

The absolute worst tend to be athletic coaches,

Ahh yes, I remember the coach teachers at my podunk high school. They "taught" history and English. One even made it to principal. Not kidding.
