F.D.A. Lifting Ban on Gay Blood Donors
New York Times ^ | December 23, 2014 | SABRINA TAVERNISE

Posted on 12/23/2014 11:05:08 AM PST by reaganaut1

The Food and Drug Administration announced on Tuesday that it would scrap a decades-old lifetime prohibition on blood donation by gay and bisexual men, a change that experts said was long overdue and could lift the annual blood supply by as much as 4 percent.

The F.D.A. enacted the ban in 1983, early in the AIDS epidemic. At the time, little was known about the human immunodeficiency virus, which causes the disease, and there was no quick test to determine whether somebody had it. But science — and the understanding of H.I.V. in particular — has advanced in the intervening decades, and on Tuesday the F.D.A. acknowledged as much, lifting the lifetime ban but keeping in place a more modest block on donations by men who have had sex with other men in the last 12 months.

In a statement, the agency said it had “carefully examined and considered the scientific evidence” before changing the policy. It said it intended to issue a draft guidance detailing the change in 2015.

The shift puts the United States on par with European countries like Britain, which adjusted its lifetime ban in favor of a 12-month restriction in 2011. Men’s health advocates welcomed the move, saying that the ban was not based on the latest science and that it perpetuated stigma about gay men as a risk to the health of the nation. [...]

“This is a major victory for gay civil rights,” said I. Glenn Cohen, a law professor at Harvard University who specializes in bioethics and health. “We’re leaving behind the old view that every gay man is a potential infection source." He said, however, that the policy was “still not rational enough."

The Reality: Obama’s plan to spread Ebola in the US is moving along too slowly, so now allows gays to donate blood so that AIDS can be spread faster.

As always that story is pretty much half-assed and incomplete. As a member of the Red Cross four gallon club I’ve seen this situation develop over half a century. The first thing missing from the story is that the problem only occurs at blood banks that pay for blood. It seems the queers are such a poorass bunch that they need the bucks to support their deadbeat lifestyle. The blood banks that don’t pay just don’t see the queers showing up in the first place. And it’s the Red Cross, secondly, not the FDeeA, who decides which donor to take. Early on they didn’t refuse queers, they just quietly took their blood and chucked it later if there was any question. But they learned how to salvage the blood by extracting platelets and/or making plasma such that suspicious blood was still somewhat useful.

I’ll still trust the Red Cross to get it right. Don’t let the nannies/ninnies at FDA discourage you from giving blood. As with anything else it’s still your responsibility to look around, be aware, watch for cleanliness, careless practices, and all the rest that goes along with staying healthy.

The math works out if you know how the queers work it. The Blood banks in the big cities typically pay for blood. Selling blood is a lifestyle for many deadbeat types and they will bleed/sell as often as they can, even going to more than one blood bank and using more than one name to keep the cash coming. So just a few more of these weak links in the blood supply system could bump the volume up measureably.

If only one person gets AIDS from this change in policy, it will be one person too many.

My Dad got malaria during WWII when he was in Africa and was never allowed to donate his blood.

I guess the feelings of a group of people who notoriously have multiple sex partners as a rule is more important than the safety of the general public.

Will druggies be allowed to donate now so they can get a couple bucks to put toward their next fix?

It is deliberate; it gives aid and comfort to the enemy. And therefore it is traitorous.

I am permanently banned from donating blood because I was stationed in Germany more than three decades ago.

Faggies have their advocates, where’s mine?

And the news cameras will be there (just like at the gay weddings) to document the event and show all the happy gay men lining up by the hundreds, showing off their bandaids and gauze on their arms.

The argument they use is "we can screen the blood supply with HIV antibody tests, so we don't need to exclude high-risk groups."

First of all, the antibody screen is not effective during the first few weeks (or even months of infection).

Secondly, are they also lifting the ban on blood donation from IV drug users, people from Haiti, female prostitutes, (straight) men who pay for sex, etc, all on the grounds that we now can screen blood? Probably not. What that tells you is that this is 100% political and has absolutely nothing to do with a fair, dispassionate reassessment of risk.

They wont die for PC, they will die because Democrats and Republicans think it’s perfectly OK to keep an enemy of the United States as President. He went after our military and now he is going after the police and all we get is slight outrage from both parties and then it’s business as usual. We have Ebola breakouts in other countries, this guy tries to import it. Speaking of which......

http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/cdc-reports-potential-ebola-exposure-in-atlanta-lab/2014/12/24/f1a9f26c-8b8e-11e4-8ff4-fb93129c9c8b_story.html

Black unemployment is through the roof, so what does he do? He does everything he can to get illegals in the country..Yeah, increase the competition that’ll help jobs. And blacks are protesting the police??? Meanwhile he’s emptying out Gitmo like theres no tomorrow not to mention letting illegals with felony convictions back on the street. I could go on and on, this guy does nothing BUT destroy or try to destroy as much as he can when it comes to the USA. A homosexual by the name of Bradley Manning commits the largest breach of classified info in US military history because he went into a gay snit. So what does Obama do? He immediately overturns DADT to get even MORE gays in the military. Anything that harms the US you can bet this guy wants more of it. Gays have AIDS on a much much higher level than heterosexuals, oh...so let’s allow gays to donate blood. On and on and on with this guy, it never ends. Next no doubt he’s going to try to bring down the economy, which is going to happen anyway the further this country falls into anarchy. The #1 Priority of both Repubs and Democrats is to get this A-HOLE OUT OF OFFICE ASAP!!! but they are both asleep at the wheel.

“This is a major victory for gay civil rights,” said I.

It's bad enough that we're expected to pretend men shooting their seed on each other's stools isn't sickening (and sick). Now we have to let them donate blood in spite of the dangers their donations will pose to patients who get their blood.

This is literally insane. hopefully, this will be enough to wake most Americans up in time for 2016.

“We’re leaving behind the old view that every gay man is a potential infection source.”

But they are, every one of them are. This is just another
act of the eugenics movement. Will homo expert Glenn Cohen
take responsibility for anyone who gets some fag-born
disease from a transfusion?

Somehow after almost 100 platelet donations they decided a basal cell( non cancerous) carcinoma was grounds to refuse me to give platelets.

So, let me get this straight: if there's a promising new treatment for cancer or Alzheimer's, the FDA needs 20 to 30 years to run trials to make sure it's safe.

But, the 100% likelihood that gay blood donors will kill innocent people...hey, what's the problem?

Or else it sounds like they believe they have far better tests. That is a factor that I hardly ever hear discussed directly. Ever since “gay” has been on the scene of blood donation this has been a danger... how did we ever know that they would self identify? Buggery does not automatically stamp a scarlet B on someone’s forehead. What has guarded against antisocial, hostile liars (cf. Typhoid Marys)? Nothing except better blood tests.

Yes, I understand the presence of a moral problem which is worse than the medical problem. This is part of the marching attempt to normalize buggery.
