North Korea denies hacking Sony, U.S. stands by its assertion

(Reuters) - North Korea said on Saturday U.S. accusations that it was involved in a cyberattack on Sony Pictures were "groundless slander," and that it wanted a joint investigation into the incident with the United States.

An unnamed spokesman of North Korea's foreign ministry said there would be serious consequences if Washington refused to agree to the probe and continued to accuse Pyongyang, according to the North Korean U.N. mission and its official KCNA news agency.

The United States stands by its assertion that North Korea was to blame, a White House National Security Council (NSC) spokesman said on Saturday, in response to the remarks.

On Friday, U.S. President Barack Obama blamed North Korea for the devastating cyberattack, which had led to the Hollywood studio cancelling the imminent release of "The Interview," a comedy on the fictional assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

In its first substantive response, the isolated North Korea said it could prove it had nothing to do with the hacking attack.

The day has arrived when I am more inclined to believe the North Korean dictatorship than my own. How sad is that?

Let’s see, Obama’s word or Kim Jong Un’s word?

One hates Americans and..... well darn, so does the other.

Okay, one has stolen from us and told us lies...... the other has stolen from us and told us thousands of lies.

Damn, this is tough.

This is one government crazy enough and capable of an EMP at back on the USA. Hello 1870’s. But, their country would be erased in retaliation. And, the Dear Leader knows that.

Yes, I am sure that dear leader, though dumb, is not stupid, and knows this. I am sure there are submarines patrolling only a few miles off the coast of North Korea 24/7/365, whose missiles could reach North Korea in about 30 seconds.

North Korea probably has the skill to do this sort of hack and not be detected as do several other countries. If there are tracks back to the North Koreans there's as much chance that someone left those footprints leading back to them as there is that the Norks left a trail.

Pointing to the North Koreans ends the investigation into how it was done and who did it quickly, something the thugs in the current regime try to do every time they're caught screwing up.

In addition, Sony is a target with plenty of competitors who would like to hurt them and who might see the film coming out as their perfect opportunity to deal Sony a blow and frame someone else as the attacker.

At any rate, the nearly instant conclusion that it was North Korea seems all too convenient for some reason.

JMHO & thinking out loud

Seriously, stay skeptical.

Using the Norks is very convenient, and it may be a payback for something else they did.

But anything out of Holder's DOJ or FBI is suspect.

When the first beneficiary of the hack is Al Sharpton now getting a say into Sony Picture content, it becomes doubly suspicious.

Obama and Holder lie. Period. Why there is any debate or doubt that they made this NK angle up amazes me.

Norks didn’t do anything of this.

I’d go into detail but, the based on the types of information released thus far they couldn’t do it and I doubt anyone else would.

You said it, brother. There is nothing the U.S. government says that is remotely credible. The cosa nostra and our 3rd World Marxist Pope have more credibility.
