SONY: 'We Have Not Caved'
Business Insider ^ | 12/19/2014 | Steve Kovach

Sony Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton appeared on CNN Friday afternoon to address the company's decision to pull "The Interview" from theaters.

Lynton told CNN's Fareed Zakaria that Sony did not cave to the hacker group Guardians of Peace (GOP) by pulling the movie.

A clip of the interview ran Friday afternoon on CNN. The full interview will air Friday night on Anderson Cooper 360.

He said the decision to pull "The Interview" only came after the major theater chains decided not to show the film. It wasn't because Sony didn't want to distribute the movie.

"Movie theaters came to us … one by one and announced they would not carry the movie,” Lynton said.

"We have not caved," he added.

Lynton also told Zakaria that Sony has "every desire" to show the movie to the public and most people are wrong in their criticism in the way Sony handled the situation.

"The President, the press, and the public are mistaken as to what actually happened," he said.

Agree, and it was a modest financial success grossing something like 50 million.

Earlier on Friday afternoon, President Obama said Sony had made a "mistake" by canceling "The Interview" premiere.

That is rich consider e & Hillary blamed an obscure video seen by maybe 2, 3 people max for the terrorist attack which killed 4 Americans in Benghazi.

I hope I am not as stupid as they think I am.

I wonder what all those ribbons mean, probably not much of anything. Idiots, every last one of them.

On the flip side, God loves them all.

Hilarious movie. I heard a lazy report (any other kind these days) that Paramount was pulling “Team America” from theaters. Uh, that movie is several years old so I don’t know what they were talking about.

Maybe we can start having all cinema customers sign a Release Of Vendor Liability in Cases of Terrorism for certain movies. I can understand their hesitation, but we should show it anyway.
This may indicate the need of a new law.

I saw the same report. And it was true. The Alamo drafthouse was going to show Team America in defiance of North Korea, but Paramount pulled the chain’s rights to show it. It was pretty much “we don’t want to get involved.”

IMHO, Obama asked them to do it so he could denounce it and not have to say it himself. This is just the kind of sh$% he would do. I don’t believe for a second that Sony, the money grubbing bastards that they are, would simply take the loss on a movie production that large just because. If it really was the theaters, then why isn’t it available for online streaming? DVD ?

I doubt the people are the problem, most folks know that even if NK did something it probably wouldn’t be at their theater and time, math is on your side in that. The problem is the theater chains don’t feel like being the site of the {your brand here} Christmas Massacre. If you look up the Aurora Batman shooting Century Movie Theater is usually in the first sentence, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they were the first ones to pull out. It’s just not good for the brand.

From the point of view of America and Freedom and all that good stuff yes they should show it anyway. But if you were in charge of the public image of Century or Harkin or any of the other big brands would you show it? I wouldn’t. And I truly believe the threats are hollow and nothing will happen. But if that were my job then I would HAVE to protect my brand from just in case. The sentence I’d give my boss is: I’m absolutely positive that nothing will happen at all, but we can’t take that chance. No matter how much you’re sure nothing will happen there’s only one way to MAKE SURE nothing happens. And that’s what they did.

Somebody caved. Which means somebody believes the NORKS are capable of mobilizing sapper units in the US by Christmas. That is the only conclusion possible. Al Sharpton and the Panthers might do it if the price was right.

Team America: World Police hardly sunk out of sight. Many theaters were going to play it in place of The Interview but the pansies at Paramount nixed that

They should put it on a free dvd, then the Internet on and on so EVERY PERSON IN THE WORLD CAN SEE IT. That would cause the most damage to N Korea.

I agree with you. The Sony higher ups are scared to death of the personal emails that hopefully will still be revealed. They were probably happy to have the excuse that the theaters would not run it. I can’t wait for the emails!

I just watched the Big Lebowski. I would recommend the Theaters play that. I will be firing up Team America next weekend.

The hilarious part is that they think the Norks won’t distribute their liberal ass hypocrisy.

Life is hard, it even harder when you are a bullshit liberal.
