SONY: 'We Have Not Caved'
Business Insider ^ | 12/19/2014 | Steve Kovach

Sony Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton appeared on CNN Friday afternoon to address the company's decision to pull "The Interview" from theaters.

Lynton told CNN's Fareed Zakaria that Sony did not cave to the hacker group Guardians of Peace (GOP) by pulling the movie.

A clip of the interview ran Friday afternoon on CNN. The full interview will air Friday night on Anderson Cooper 360.

He said the decision to pull "The Interview" only came after the major theater chains decided not to show the film. It wasn't because Sony didn't want to distribute the movie.

"Movie theaters came to us … one by one and announced they would not carry the movie,” Lynton said.

"We have not caved," he added.

Lynton also told Zakaria that Sony has "every desire" to show the movie to the public and most people are wrong in their criticism in the way Sony handled the situation.

"The President, the press, and the public are mistaken as to what actually happened," he said.

They cancelled a movie release. A movie they probably spent 10s of millions of dollars to make.

They caved....

If they were SMART, they’d release the thing as far and wide as possible. It has gotten all sorts of free publicity. They should put it on the internet as a $3 download or something, if nothing else.

"The President, the press, and the public are mistaken as to what actually happened," he said.

How dare he question the integrity, intelligence and intellectual greatness of Dear Leader?

Either one of them, for that matter.

RE: If they were SMART, they’d release the thing as far and wide as possible. It has gotten all sorts of free publicity.

I believe that the reason why they aren’t doing it is because the hackers have SENSITIVE information on many of their employees ( especially the higher ups ).

The “racist” e-mail of Amy Paschal is just one of them and they intend to release what they have strategically, one at a time.

In other words, it’s cyber-BLACKMAIL and because there’s DIRT on many of them, they caved (even when they say they haven’t ).

This late-breaking Oscar announcement is no surprise after Sony folded and pulled "Interview" and Paramount pulled "Team America" from theaters:
The Revolutionary Artists Committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Scientists are happy to announce that His Excellency Kim Jong-un will host the 87th annual Academy Awards.

"All peoples celebrate Dear Leader’s most humble decision to host the Oscars,” said Sony Pictures Chairman and CEO Michael Lynton. “We have witnessed his strength and honor from afar and welcome the divine opportunity to explode our love in his presence. To obey Doctor Leader’s magnanimous offer to host the Oscars is perfect joy, all of his resources and talent coming together on global stage.”

Excerpted from the less-than-serious Ricochet article, "Kim Jong-un to Host 87th Annual Oscars.

I have heard hat if the film is not released due to terrorists’ threats, they can recover costs from insurance.

People seem to forget that Sony Corporation is Japanese owned, not American owned. Therefore, the outlook is different. For the last two or three years, the Japanese have been under various threats or allusions of territorial threats from the Chinese. In areas of diplomacy, most asian countries bend over backwards to take the cautious route, vs being openly confrontational. They still caved, and they need to let the Americans decide for ourselves what should be seen here.

I’d be surprised. Most insurance policies have clauses that exempt acts of war and terrorism.

There was a similar movie done years ago using puppets playing the parts, IIRC, I don’t recall the name.

It sort of sank out of sight under its own weight.

Somehow, North Korea has become one of those things that are not openly and freely discussed, and since they now have gained the right to censor movies critical of themselves, the discussion has become even more muted.
