The problem I see is that the people we voted into office to speak for us, have been inert and mute the whole while this has been happening.

I do agree with that. However, our representatives try to pander and appease every faction, regardless of its value, for votes, not principles. Sadly, much of the voting public has no idea what American values are/were.
In today’s society, there is no “right.” It’s all relative. I don’t see any good end.
