The diffused aesthetic of blank surfaces and horizontal windows was a nod to his socialism. He was all about reorienting civilization into one international egalitarian culture. All the modernists, the true theoretical modernists, were commies. Central planning, social engineering, Utopia.
If you’re interested in this subject, Jane Jacobs is still the best source and The Death and Life of Great American Cities shows (almost explicitly) how socialists have destroyed our cities. “Organized Complexity” is the same as Hayek’s “Spontaneous Order.” In Jacobs’ Economy of Cities, she shows how advances in society have resulted from people coming together in cities. The way that Cape Town was planned, it was going to fail without top-down enforcement from its social engineers.
Well if that's the case, then we're all African-Americans......Where are my reparations?
And the moral of the Black commie story is Detroit. They should have tried out freedom.
My gosh, if raw waste from overflowing toilets running through your LIVING ROOM is not incentive enough to do something, what is?
In Detroit doctors and teachers probably do well, skimming re-distributed wealth from the bennies the rest of us pay for. Here in NJ the worst areas have the highest paid teachers (the residents themselves pay nothing towards them).
