Pope Francis and the Catholic Crisis
Huffington Post ^ | 12/15/2014 | Charles J. Reid Jr.

There is a growing crisis haunting the Catholic Church. And it is a crisis larger than the events that have so greatly afflicted the American Catholic Church. The pedophilia scandals are a horrifying element of this crisis. So, too, are the bishops who covered up and excused these outrages. And so, also, the more general loss of confidence Catholics have in a hierarchy that seems oddly concerned with rank and privilege and with fighting yesterday's culture wars. Yes, these are all elements of the crisis, but the crisis is larger than this.

And that something larger is both sad and profound: a loss of faith in the institutions of the Church. Pope Francis, in his remarkable interview with La nacion, published the weekend of December 6 and 7, made it clear that he recognized the gravity of the moment. He was asked why so many people were leaving the Church. As posed, the question addressed Latin America. By implication, it looked to the world.

This is another stupid article written to attack Catholics. The author, like so many others in the media, gets everything wrong when writing about Catholics. There was no pedophilia scandal. It was a small group of homosexuals who had sex with young men in their late teens. "Fighting yesterdays culture wars" is a sick and insulting phrase to describe standing up for moral values. There is no crisis among faithful Catholics. We are enthusiastic and strong in our beliefs. The liberals and immoral people who continually attack our beliefs and our life choices are portrayed as virtuous.

There is no "poisoned relationship between priests and lay Catholics" as the article asserts. There is a shortage of priests. Most of the functions of the Catholic church today are done by the laity. We make the decisions, do the work and pay the bills. We love and respect our priests. We appreciate their sacrifice and devotion. We do all we can to help them.

Pope Francis and the media describe a Catholic Church that does not exist in real life but only in their leftist fantasies. They profess to solve problems that do not exist. They argue that we should abandon the teachings of Jesus Christ and two Centuries of rich tradition in order to try to please people who will always despise what is good and true and holy.

The first place I'd turn to get a reasonable, responsible report about Christianity is *not* the Huffington Post.

Yes, if the Huffington Post had their way, they’d destroy the Catholic Church, because it gets in their way.

The liberals and immoral people who continually attack our beliefs and our life choices are portrayed as virtuous.

Why are the leftists and other nonbelievers so afraid of the cross? They relentlessly criticize and attack the church. They are unhappy people.

Why are they so afraid of the cross?

It’s always worth while to turn the binoculars backwards from time to time and peer at the world through the enemy’s eyes.

i am not an expert, nor a believer, just a fan of the the religious right and catholics. This pope worries me, i believe he was a leftist in argintina and nothing he has done has has given me any confidence.
i am hoping for the best, the last two popes were beyond fantastic.
