I feel for you. I have a NC CCW. just the other week I walked in Gander Mountain, looked at a nice Taurus 357 mag(7 shot), showed them my CCW, filled out the form, paid with debit card and left. Took about 20 minutes.

I went home and set it beside several double-stack S&W (14rounds) and several AR15 magazines (25-30-40).

Not a big deal at all here in NC.

Yes, I also have residency in Arizona and Israel.

Israel was no big deal because I am in the reserves, so I get a M4 and 9mm, as does my wife (and eldest daughter, but she has a Tavor), and for various reasons, we are all able to carry a 9mm. It was a hassle, but nothing compared to NYC.

Arizona, I have a carry permit and carry various handguns depending on my mood and clothes, as well as a nicely stocked gun cabinet (including a Tavor, which I can’t have in Israel, ironically), all of which took about 10 minutes.
