CENTRAL, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A soldier returning home for the holidays to see his wife and newborn baby in Central is being kicked out of his wife's apartment after the landlord said he is overstaying the time allowed for visitors.

Sergeant William Bolt is stationed in Missouri, but his wife has been in Central. She gave birth to their daughter two weeks ago.

Bolt said the landlord at The Groves apartment complex in Central told him he had overstayed, saying visitors are not allowed to stay in the apartments past seven days, per the agreement signed by Bolt's wife, Lily. [snip]

“(That’s the problem with journalists today, they don’t get all the info and run with that.... )”

I have been informed that facts don’t matter. On a thread you are supposed to use emotion only and support the person that posts the the article.

I would say the landlord’s lease is up on the freedom the Soldier helps ensure.

“per the agreement signed by Bolt’s wife, “

Did anyone force her to sign that agreement?

He isn’t on the lease.

Or do we think that reading a contract and following it doesn’t apply as long as we like the person that is breaking it?

I agree. When I stayed in Arlington for 3.5 years...I had signed a lease on a studio apartment, which had a stipulation of only one resident, and one single guest for a period of ten consecutive days. I thought it was a weird rule, but the pricing and location were higher priorities. There are reasons to run a policy like this....like you suggest.

I’ll bet illegal aliens pack several of his apartments with only one name on the lease.

I'll bet just threatening to double the rent is a crime.

Maybe, maybe not, if it's based on occupancy. The baby means the population doubled, with Dad coming 'home', tripled. An awful lot depends on the terms of the lease.

No, I'm not arguing in favor of the landlord, either.

I'm just saying that it doesn't seem as if we have the whole story.

Where's the paper trail in all this. The landlord should have sent them a letter with his "threats" spelled out.

They in turn (as per their lease) sent him a response indicating the circumstances. 7 days is an arbitrary number. It will not hold up in court.....the question being...is he a visitor or a resident.

The rules are in order. If he didn’t have the rule, there might be 10 or 15 asian students living in the apartment

EXACTLY. Well, maybe Mexican illegals...

I would never, ever want to be a landlord.

” 7 days is an arbitrary number.”

It’s part of the contract.

“The Fair Housing Act would protect these folks from this snarky, hateful landlord. “

The FHA does not apply to roommates in shared housing.

Does this mean the wife took out a lease in her own name as a single person without putting her husband's name on it too? Trying to appear single? WTF?
