Things are pretty volatile in the Chaos Caucus.
Every since Republicans took over the Assembly, things have been anything but smooth.
That shouldnt be much of a surprise. After all, even the GOP itself didnt expect to be in charge of the lower house, and the last time the party was in charge, Ronald Reagan was in the White House and the pinnacle of technology was the Apple IIe desktop computer.
You already know about the disastrous election of Ira Hansen, R-Sparks, as speaker. He was undone by ugly sentiments penned in a Sparks newspaper over a long career as a freelance columnist.
You also know about the subsequent reshuffling of leaders, in which John Hambrick of Las Vegas took over as speaker, with Michele Fiore, R-Las Vegas, named majority leader, Hansen assistant majority leader, and Jim Wheeler of Minden named whip. (Wheeler is the guy who once said hed reluctantly vote to bring back slavery if his constituents demanded it.)
Things were looking good until journalist Jon Ralston reported Fiore had failed to pay some taxes, resulting in more than $1 million in liens filed against her by the IRS. And since Fiore had also been named chairwoman of the Assembly Taxation Committee, a political problem emerged: You probably shouldnt be presiding over legislation concerning taxes if you havent paid your own.

“STEVE SEBELIUS”
Is this Kathleen’s husband? If so, the later stupidity is more easily understood.
“Every since Republicans took over the Assembly, things have been anything but smooth.”
Seems to me that nothing will settle down until after the actual INAGURATION of the Senators elect....
“the last time the party was in charge, Ronald Reagan was in the White House and the pinnacle of technology was the Apple IIe desktop computer.”
I’m no expert or nothing, but my memory says that the GOP controlled the House, the Senate and the Presidency for the first 6 years of GWB.
They’re talking about the NV Assembly, not Congress. Last time the GOP won a majority in that body was in 1984 (though they did have parity with the 1994 elections and forced the election of Co-Speakers from each party).
Back in the '90s, when I lived in Nevada, the two from my area weren't worth a crap. They showed up at a Town Hall meeting and I publicly asked them both why they caved in and supported the issuing an ID to illegals for non-voting, etc. (The H.S class in attendance oohed at such temerity.)
They replied that they did it as "so many people complained" about not being able to cash their check. I told they they were aiding and abetting people breaking the law.
Silence. "Next?"
I'm drawing a blank as to the name of the ID, but in ended in "ista". Anybody?
Ah, OK. Thanks for the clarification. I stand corrected.
