Via the British group Reprieve comes a report asserting that U.S. drones in Yemen and Pakistan kill 28 "unknowns" for every intended target. What's more, "41 names of men who seemed to have achieved the impossible: to have ‘died,’ in public reporting, not just once, not just twice, but again and again.

From the Reprieve report:

As many as 1,147 people may have been killed during attempts to kill 41 men, accounting for a quarter of all possible drone strike casualties in Pakistan andYemen. In Yemen, strikes against just 17 targets accounted for almost half of all confirmed civilian casualties. Yet evidence suggests that at least four of these 17 men are still alive. Similarly, in Pakistan, 221 people, including 103 children, have been killed in attempts to kill four men, three of whom are still alive and a fourth of whom died from natural causes. One individual, Fahd al Quso, was reported killed in both Yemen and Pakistan. In four attempts to kill al Quso, 48 people potentially lost their lives.

"A dead wife is not really innocent. Ditto most of her kids"

OK, this is true if they are, in practical terms, active or reserve military. That is, if the wife can, in a pinch, "man" antiaircraft artillery, the middle-school age kids are laying IED's, and the teenagers are training with Kalashes.

IN that case, they are not non-combatant.

But if they are noncombatant, they are in a different category and they are not to be directly and deliberately targeted.

This is a basic distinction upheld by the UCMJ.

So?

I saw a photo of a beheaded little girl being held by one of these muslim scum.

Do whatever to them. I don’t care.

You make a valid point. Maybe the CIA should just kill the prisoner after they have rung all the information needed.

And, it’s also not like we refrain from launching if the guy always hangs with the wife and kids.

Eventually, ya gotta take him out, even if he surrounds himself with human shields.

Somehow the innocents of Hamburg, Frankfurt, Cologne, Dresden, Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, not to mention Manila and the towns and cities of France we had to level to get at the Japanese Imperial and Nazi armies make all this concern over a couple thousand Arabs seem a trifle overdone.

It makes sense that Progressives prefer drone strikes to captures.

Baby killers!

It’s not like wives and kids have much in the way of options of picking up and leaving in a Muslim country. “

Sucks to be them.
