BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) — Hundreds of people marched through Berkeley for a third night a row, blocking a major highway and stopping a train as activists in this ultra-liberal bastion protested grand jury decisions not to indict white police officers in the deaths of two unarmed black men on the other side of the country.
Protesters blocked traffic on both sides of Interstate 80 in Berkeley, while another group stood and sat on train tracks, temporarily forcing an Amtrak train to stop Monday night.

I was in Berkeley during the 1969 People’s Park riots and I think it was much worse than this . However there was also a very clear and strong response from the Governor of California at the time ; Ronald Reagan .... There were Calif. NG soldiers in the streets , with loaded rifles . APC’s at every major corner , concertina wire in the worst areas of rioting . Helos overhead dispensing teargas . Those riots stemmed forth from similar so-called non-violent protests . They evolved . These could too , but what response will their be now ?

Don't know if there was also one in Washington, but a protested named Brian Wilson (IIRC) lost one in such an accident at the Concord Naval Weapons Station in Concord, CA back about then.

Absolutely; bring out the fire hoses. They work best in winter when the PETA people are protesting. Hose them all down, and then ask if they are interested in a fur coat.

I would much rather repeatedly nail an intruder with rubber bullets than have the endless paperwork of actually shooting the perp.
