Eighteen states, led by Texas, filed a lawsuit today with the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of Texas challenging President Obama's executive action on immigration. The suit claims that the White House overstepped its authority by granting amnesty and work permits for 5 million illegal aliens.
After filing the federal suit, Texas Attorney General and Governor-elect Greg Abbott wrote in a statement that President Obama's executive amnesty "tramples the U.S. Constitution's Take Care Clause and federal law."
Also included in Attorney General Abbott's statement were the states' legal challenges to President Obama's executive action:
The other states involved in the suit include: Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
UPDATE: Arizona has joined the lawsuit. In a statement, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer said, "Obama has exceeded his power as clearly defined in the United States Constitution and federal law and deliberately ignored the will of the American people. Such federal overreach cannot stand."
Florida has joined the lawsuit. In a statement, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi said, "The President repeatedly said he would not violate the law, then decided to do just that. The powers granted to the President are expressly laid out in the United States Constitution, yet President Obama has decided to ignore those parameters."

Well, do you know when Obama signed the "executive ACTION"? Thanks.
I think this is a much better tactic instead of shutting the government down. I know that my comment is not popular on this board but that is my thought after watching what happened two Octobers ago.
RE: I think this is a much better tactic instead of shutting the government down
This assumes of course that we have the right judge adjudicating this case...
Obama has for the past 6 years, filled many of these seats with judges like Sotomayor and Kagan.
Somehow, I don’t see “Tricky Ricky” from MI signing on.
The above is from the article. It sounds similar to the comment in the Simpson/Mazzoli act about social security requiring a congressional review.
Congress is too scared to act so the Governors are taking over.
What a bunch of elected COWARDS in D.C.
Why not simply give tax credits to companies that move their factories from the U.S. to Mexico?
That way Mexicans can stay home and take Americans’ jobs instead of having to come here to do it.
RE: Why not simply give tax credits to companies that move their factories from the U.S. to Mexico?
The “Bring back American Jobs now” crowd will not like it.
Lots of them here at FR.
The second complaint re due notice I and others contacted the AG office about this point. The discovery was made by a Freeper who found the requirement in the IRCA code. Good job FR blogger whoever u are!!!
Also we need Immediate injunctive relief to STOP THE ISSUANCE OF SS#’s & legal docs....guess that ain’t gonna happen right?
Can these SS#’s once issued be put out of use if the case goes in our favor?
Does anyone know?
Didn’t Ohio make it 20?
Hey John, I do not think the pResident signed a thing. I believe he just waived his magic negro wand and made the illegals legal. He then just commanded DHS to set up the process to print the cards for the now new citizens. No EO or EA was ever signed.
I stand to be corrected like always.
