The chokehold death of Eric Garner in NYPD custody wasn’t “a black-and-white thing,” his widow said Sunday — a stunning admission that breaks sharply from lawmakers and protesters who have seized on the racial aspect of the case.

Esaw Snipes said she believed her husband was “murdered unjustly,” but said skin color wasn’t a factor behind his fatal arrest for allegedly selling loose cigarettes on Staten Island last summer.

The police are told what laws to stringently enforce and which ones they are to cite and which ones they are to ignore.

If your beef is with this police action, then you are barking up the WRONG tree!

If you paid your water bill, but the company sends someone out to shutdown your water, do you resist the water-meter man, or do you call the water company?

The problem is the MANAGEMENT of the Police Department, the MANAGEMENT of the City, and the MANAGEMENT of the entire liberal state of New York!

The police were doing their jobs! They did NOT do a choke-hold (which contrary to what people have been spewing, is NOT illegal for the NYPD to use, but it is “discouraged.”)! The person DID resist arrest! And he was out of shape, which I will bet caused more of his death than the neck/head grab in which the police engaged Mr. Garner.

I am sad that Mr. Garner died, but not because the police did anything, but because the MANAGEMENT of the system told them to do something! These laws which they were enforcing are simply a waste of time and resources, but the individual police officers do not always get to decide which laws will be ignored - they aren’t King Obama, you know!!

Let me tell you a little story to show you how it goes.
As a younger man I was driving home in my old VW van when about 6 cop cars with 10 officers pulled ME over.
Being I don't possess a large stupid gene and my parents always said to cooperate with the police I did so.

I knew they were going to approach the car, I as I slowed rolled down my window so we could talk and I placed both hands on top of the steering wheel fingers spread apart.
The police approached (many) with GUNS DRAWN all pointed at me.
I froze hands in place, made no moves and answered the questions they had. There was a robbery in the area with a similar car to mine.

Had I had attitude, felt entitled to take offense with the officers and acted out the fool or lipped off I would at a minimum have been arrested and possibly dead even though I had originally done NOTHING wrong.

So, this fellow who had been arrested some ten times before knew that what he was doing required the police to arrest him and he needed and should have known to cooperate.
The Mayor had also told police to crack down on these cigarette sales because it evaded their tax revenue, so the same mayor that has the police in his site is responsible for the cause police focusing on illegal tobacco sales.

The whole fault of death though belongs to anyone who resists arrest and in most all these cases the problem starts with resisting arrest.
What all kids should be taught that isn't taught by children with stupid, racist or low information parents is that you always cooperate with police.
The bottom line that has been shown to be true is not cooperating with police can end in your own downfall and death; so what is the payoff in acting like a fool with the police?

I don’t’ believe I own anyone in the government the benefit of the doubt. That includes the police.

I do not accept your blanket statement. There are plenty of times that you should NOT cooperate with the police.

Let me tell you a little story to show you how it goes.

When I was 21 and in the military, my new wife and I travel by car from CA to AR. In Dallas, a cop weaved thru traffic to pull be over. He knew I was a mark because I had out-of-state plates. I was moving with the flow of traffic, anf yes, I was speeding (65 in a 55).

By the time I left the side of the road, the cop had threatened to leave my new bride on the side of the road in the freezing rain and take me to jail. I was 100% respectful and complaint. He didn’t leave me alone until had relieved me of my wedding cash.

That was the beginning of the end of my naivety. I know it's not always in my best interest to cooperate with the authorities.

It is beyond me that all conservatives don't understand this.

I've been pulled over a couple of times by a single cop for minor issues.Even more recently I was in a car being driven by my sister that was pulled over on I-95 in Virginia.That event was during daylight and her 25 year old son,a big husky healthy looking guy was with us as well.As we were waiting for the cop to approach I gave my nephew some "fatherly" advice."Don't speak unless the cop speaks to you...keep your hands in plain sight at all times...don't make any sudden moves" I said to him (he's a good kid anyway...and he's a Freeper) but I just wanted to review.And,of course,I intended to follow the same advice I gave him.

The (black) VA State trooper approached.My sister was very polite...she admitted to having exceeded the speed limit.The cop was very polite and professional.He gave her a ticket,said "drive safely" and we were off in less than 10 minutes.No cops were hurt....no civilians were hurt.

I think there might be a lesson there for people of all races.But then there's Chris Rock's "How Not To Get Your A$$ Kicked By The Police" which is pretty good too.

How were you driving and did you suspect you were driving crazy and is THAT why you were looking behind you to see that the police were weaving trough traffic to catch up and pull you over?
Sounds like the officer was going after reckless driving at some speed perhaps? That is usually why a cop does that. They don’t look for out of state plates IMO. Maybe out of state folks more often don’t know the local speed limits though.

The officer would have seen you were young, military with a lead foot. I like that you say you were polite and I hope you were.

I’m saying he sat me in his front seat and threatened to take me to jail if I did not give him cash. He took my money on the spot. I didn’t get a ticket and it never showed up on my record.

At 21 I had been in the military for nearly 3 ½ years. I worked on B-52 Bombers sitting on Nuclear Alert. I had a TS clearance. I had military discipline, new to respect positional authority and knew how to behave.

She makes it clear how painful police presence in the black community can be. She knew her husband had a record - and that selling cigarettes was illegal, but she said he was 'lazy' and had health issues and this was one of the few things he could do. Six children and a wife who loved him.

She wasn't attempting to be a victim - she was just telling the truth. And the feeling I had was she lives in a third world hellhole. A world Kafka would 'get'... and yet she's talking about New York.
